TicketsNow was an online ticket retailer. It was founded in 1992 by Mike Domek and headquartered in Woodstock, Illinois.
Founded by Mike Domek in 1992, the company was originally known as VIP Tour Company before being rebranded as TicketsNow in 1999.
TicketsNow was named in 2004 and 2006 to the Inc. 500, which includes the top 10% of the published Inc. 5000 index of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the U.S. TicketsNow is a founding member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers (NATB), which promotes ethics in the secondary ticketing marketplace. In February 2008, TicketsNow was acquired by Ticketmaster for $265 million and currently operates as a wholly owned, independently operated subsidiary. [3]
TicketsNow has a few major competitors. These competitors include StubHub, TicketNetwork, Seatgeek, Vivid Seats.
In 2009, suspicion arose when consumers attempting to purchase tickets to a Bruce Springsteen concert were instantly redirected from Ticketmaster.com to TicketsNow and saw the same tickets being sold at premium prices. As a ticket broker owned by Ticketmaster, rumors abounded that Ticketmaster conspired to divert buyers away from the main site at normal prices towards the broker site at inflated prices. Founded in 1979, the company is owned by TEG Pty Ltd with its headquarters in Sydney and operates ticketing operations for entertainment and sporting events in Australia and New Zealand. Online ticket brokering is the resale of tickets through a web-based ticket brokering service. Prices on ticket brokering websites are determined by demand, availability, and the ticket reseller. Tickets sold through an online ticket brokering service may or may not be authorized by the official seller. Generally, the majority of trading on ticket brokering websites concerns itself with tickets to live entertainment events whereby the primary officially licensed seller's supply has been exhausted and the event has been declared "sold-out". This "sold-out" status increases the ticket's potential market value. Springsteen on Broadway is a concert residency by Bruce Springsteen held at the Walter Kerr Theatre and St. James Theatre in New York City. The original residency at the Walter Kerr Theatre consisted of Springsteen performing five shows a week, Tuesday through Saturday. Preview performances began on October 3, 2017 followed by the official opening on October 12, 2017. The run was originally expected to conclude on November 26, 2017; however, due to high demand for tickets and issues with scalpers, additional dates were added through June 30, 2018. The show was extended a second time on March 20, 2018, extending the run through December 15, 2018. On June 7, 2021, Springsteen announced a limited 31 show run of Springsteen on Broadway at the St. James Theatre beginning on June 26, 2021 with additional performances through September 4, 2021.
The Better Online Ticket Sales Act of 2016 was signed into federal law by President Barack Obama on December 14, 2016. This act was created to thwart attempts by individuals and organization to automate the process of purchasing tickets en masse using ticket bots. Later, these tickets are often resold on third-party sites for profit at a markup over face value, or at a loss. This activity is also referred to as ticket scalping. The BOTS Act outlawed the resale of tickets purchased using bot technology and set a fine of $16,000 for violations of the act, which is enforced by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
The Springsteen and E Street Band2023 Tour is an upcoming concert tour by American singer Bruce Springsteen and his backing band the E Street Band. The tour is scheduled to begin on February 1, 2023, in Tampa. The tour marks the first time since 2017 that Springsteen and the E Street Band have toured together.
The Eras Tour is the upcoming sixth headlining concert tour by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Having not toured for her studio albums Lover (2019), Folklore (2020), and Evermore (2020) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Swift will embark on the Eras Tour in support of all of her albums, including her latest, Midnights (2022). It is her second all-stadium tour, after the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour. The U.S. leg is set to commence on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and end on August 9, 2023, in Inglewood, California. Swift described the tour's concept as a "journey through all of my musical eras".
The 2022 Ticketmaster controversy, better known as the Ticketmaster–Taylor Swift fiasco in the mainstream media, refers to the blunders of American ticket sales company Ticketmaster in selling tickets to the Eras Tour, the 2023 concert tour by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, in November 2022. Ticketmaster, the leading ticketing platform in the world and a subsidiary of American entertainment company Live Nation Entertainment, partnered with Swift to manage and sell tickets to the tour. The first round of ticket on-sale for the U.S. leg of the tour began on November 18, 2022, via Ticketmaster's Verified Fan pre-sale program. Media outlets described the demand for tickets to the Eras Tour as "astronomical", with 3.5 million people registering for the program. However, within an hour of commencing, the pre-sale froze and the website crashed, with users either completely logged out or in a queue of 2,000 people that did not move. 2.4 million tickets to the tour were sold that day despite the outage, breaking the all-time record for the most concert tickets sold by an artist in a single day. Ticketmaster attributed the crash to heavy site traffic—"historically unprecedented demand with [14 million] showing up"—but the users blamed the platform for poor customer service.
