Timothy A. Sanders (born 1982) is an American politician serving as the mayor of Blaine,Minnesota,since 2021 and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota,he represented District 37B,which included parts of Anoka County,in the northern part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area,from 2009 to 2017,having decided not to seek reelection in 2016.
Sanders grew up in a military family on Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton,Ohio. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis,earning his B.A. in political science with a minor in history. Sanders worked as an intern for former U.S. Representative Jim Ramstad in his Minnetonka office. [1] [2] He is also a commercial insurance representative for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. [2]
Sanders was first elected in 2008,succeeding first-term Representative Scott Kranz,who moved out of the district. He was reelected in 2010,2012,and 2014. [3] He did not seek reelection in 2016. [4]
In 2020,Sanders was elected to a four-year term as mayor of Blaine,Minnesota,and assumed office on 1 January 2021, [5] replacing retiring mayor Tom Ryan. [6]
Steven A. "Steve" Sviggum is a Minnesota politician,a member of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents,and an executive assistant to and communications director for the Republican caucus in the Minnesota Senate. A former Speaker and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives,Sviggum represented District 28B in the southeastern part of the state. The area was known as District 25A until the 1982 legislative redistricting,and then as District 26A until the 1992 redistricting,and has included all or portions of Dakota,Dodge,Goodhue,Olmsted,Steele,Wabasha,Waseca and Winona counties.
Nora Bayly Slawik is a Minnesota politician,previously serving as Chairwoman of the Metropolitan Council,Maplewood Mayor and Minnesota State Representative. From 1997 to 1998 and 2001–2012,she represented District 57A,and from 2003 to 2012,she represented District 55B,which includes portions of Ramsey and Washington counties and the cities of Maplewood and Oakdale in the eastern part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. This off-year election featured gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey,as well as state legislative elections in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and in the Virginia House of Delegates. Peggy Flanagan is an American politician,community organizer,and Native American activist serving as the 50th lieutenant governor of Minnesota. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL),Flanagan served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Nation and is the first Native American to serve in statewide office in Minnesota.
The 2018 Minnesota gubernatorial election took place on November 6,to elect the 41st Governor of Minnesota as incumbent Democratic governor Mark Dayton chose not to run for re-election for a third term. The Democratic nominee was congressman Tim Walz from Minnesota's 1st congressional district while the Republicans nominated Hennepin County commissioner Jeff Johnson. The Independence Party of Minnesota didn't field a candidate for the first time since 1994. Going into the election the polls showed Walz ahead and the race was characterized as lean or likely DFL.

A mayoral election was held on November 2,2021,to elect the mayor of the U.S. city of Minneapolis. Incumbent DFL mayor Jacob Frey won reelection to a second term,becoming the first Minneapolis mayor to win a second term since R. T. Rybak in 2005. Minneapolis mayoral elections use instant-runoff voting,also known as ranked-choice voting. All candidates appear on the same ballot and there is no primary election,nor is there a runoff. Minneapolis's twin city,Saint Paul,also held a mayoral election on the same day,using the same system.
Presidential primaries and caucuses are being organized by the Democratic Party to select the delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention,to determine the party's nominee for president in the 2024 United States presidential election. The elections will take place in all 50 U.S. states,the District of Columbia,five U.S. territories,and Democrats Abroad,and will be held between February and June that year.
