Concettina Romagnuolo (born February 3, 1990) is a former Canadian soccer player who played as a midfielder.

Early life

Romagnuolo began playing soccer at the age of three in Scarborough before making her rep debut at age six, later playing competitively in Markham, Oshawa, Ajax and Richmond Hill. [1] Romagnuolo was a member of the U14 Ontario team that won a bronze and the U16 squad that won two gold medals, as well as winning silver at the 2005 Canada Summer Games with Team Ontario. [1]

In 2008, she began attending Syracuse University, playing for the women's soccer team, redshirting her first season. [2] In 2009, she scored her first goal in the season opener against St. Bonaventure, finishing her rookie season with nine goals and 18 points, leading the team in scoring and All-BIG EAST Second Team, BIG EAST All-Academic Team, and All-Rookie Team honours. [2] She was once again named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2010 and in 2011 was named to the All-Tournament Team. [2] Over 54 games with the Orange, she scored 17 goals. [3]

In 2012, she moved to the University of Miami, where she scored two goals in nine games before suffering a season-ending injury on September 16 against Duke. [4]

Club career

After training with the Toronto Lady Lynx in 2006, Romagnuolo joined the club in 2007. [5] She was named the team Rookie of the Year. [2]

In 2008, she played with the Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects in the Pacific Coast Soccer League. [6]

In 2009 and 2010, she played with the Ottawa Fury.

In 2011, she played with the Vancouver Whitecaps. [7]

She later played with the Ottawa Fury, winning the 2012 USL W-League season. [4]

International career

Romagnuolo has received call-up to Canadian youth sides since she was 15. [8]

She made her only appearance for the Canada senior team on September 22, 2011, against the United States. [9]

Later life

She later completed her master's degree at the University of Windsor, where she was able to intern with Major League Soccer club Toronto FC through a partnership between the University of Windsor and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment. [10]

The 2005 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season was the club's 19th year of play, as well as their 13th as a Division 2 club in the franchise model of US-based soccer leagues. They played in the now defunct USL First Division which in 2005 was rebranded from A-League and was the highest level of Canadian club soccer. 2005 was Bob Lilley's first season as head coach after Tony Fonseca was released to take on the new District Development Centre Technical Director position with the BCSA. Under Tony Fonseca the Whitecaps had playoffs qualifications three straight years and advanced to the semifinals once. Part of the re-organization of BC youth soccer involved the Whitecaps expanding their youth program to ten Super Y League teams. The Whitecaps were one of only a few US or Canadian clubs with a complete youth system. MLS teams in 2005 did not have as extensive a club structure.

The Voyageurs Cup was a competition organized by The Voyageurs supporters' group to determine the best Canadian soccer club playing in the USL W-League between 2004 and 2006. Head-to-head matches between Canadian clubs during the regular season were added to a table, where the top team were awarded the Women's Voyageurs Cup trophies. Because there was no inter-conference play in the regular season, an east and west team were both crowned at the end of each season. In 2006 however, the coincidental meeting between the east and west champion in the playoff finals allowed the Voyageurs to additionally honour a "Super Cup" champion.
