Tokyo Torch is a large-scale redevelopment district near Tokyo Station in Tokyo, Japan. [1] [2] It will consist of two skyscrapers:
In addition to the skyscrapers, the district will have two other buildings. In total, it will cover a 31,400-square-meter area near the Marunouchi commercial district. Seeing a strong demand for office space, developer Mitsubishi Estate said it was building the district to create renewed interest in the area as a business destination. [2] [3]
Tokyo Torch will also include a large plaza, the Tokyo Torch Terrace, for visitors and employees who work in the towers. It was initially open in 2021 as a 3,000-square meter open space with turf and cherry blossoms, [4] but will be expanded to a 7,000-square meter plaza in 2027 to fill the space between the buildings. [5] Developers said plans for the outdoor spaces were expanded in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. [6]
Tokyo Torch will be directly connected to Ōtemachi subway station, which is right next to Tokyo Station. When construction is complete, the district will include an underground pedestrian walkway which connects people to nearby transportation hubs. [7]
On September 17, 2020, it was announced that the name of the redevelopment area had been decided as "Tokyo Torch", and the official names of the skyscrapers as "Tokiwabashi Tower" and "Torch Tower". [8] The name, "Tokyo Torch", was chosen in the hope that it will "illuminate Japan", in particular the Torch Tower, which will have a torch-inspired design. [9] [10] The project is expected to cost about ¥500 billion (4.77 billion U.S. dollars). [11]
Tokyo Station is a railway station in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. The original station is located in Chiyoda's Marunouchi business district near the Imperial Palace grounds. The newer Eastern extension is not far from the Ginza commercial district. Due to the large area covered by the station, it is divided into the Marunouchi (west) and Yaesu (east) sides in its directional signage.
Ueno Station is a major railway station in Tokyo's Taitō ward. It is the station used to reach the Ueno district and Ueno Park—which contains Tokyo National Museum, The National Museum of Western Art, Ueno Zoo, Tokyo University of the Arts and other famous cultural facilities. A major commuter hub, it is also the traditional terminus for long-distance trains from northern Japan, although with the extension of the Shinkansen lines to Tokyo Station this role has diminished in recent years. A similar extension of conventional lines extended Takasaki Line, Utsunomiya Line and Jōban Line services to Tokyo Station via the Ueno-Tokyo Line in March 2015, using existing little-used tracks and a new viaduct; the Ueno-Tokyo Line connects these lines with the Tōkaidō Main Line, allowing through services to Shinagawa, Yokohama, Odawara and Atami stations.
The Keiō Line is a 37.9-kilometer (23.5 mi) railway line in western Tokyo, Japan, owned by the private railway operator Keiō Corporation. It connects Shinjuku, Tokyo, with the suburban city of Hachiōji. The Keiō Line is part of a network with interchanges and through running to other lines of Keiō Corporation: the Keiō New Line, Keiō Sagamihara Line, the Keiō Keibajō Line, the Keiō Dōbutsuen Line, the Keiō Takao Line, and the 1,067 mm gauge Keiō Inokashira Line.
Akihabara Station is a railway station in Tokyo's Chiyoda ward. It is at the center of the Akihabara shopping district specializing in electronic goods.
Nihonbashi (日本橋) is a business district of Chūō, Tokyo, Japan which grew up around the bridge of the same name which has linked two sides of the Nihonbashi River at this site since the 17th century. The first wooden bridge was completed in 1603. The current bridge, designed by Tsumaki Yorinaka and constructed of stone on a steel frame, dates from 1911. The district covers a large area to the north and east of the bridge, reaching Akihabara to the north and the Sumida River to the east. Ōtemachi is to the west and Yaesu and Kyobashi to the south.
The Yokohama Landmark Tower is the third tallest building and fifth tallest structure in Japan, standing 296.3 m (972 ft) high. Until surpassed by Abeno Harukas in 2014, it stood as the tallest building in Japan. It is located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama city, next to the Yokohama Museum of Art.

Tokyo Skytree is a broadcasting and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634 meters (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the third tallest structure in the world after the Merdeka 118 and the Burj Khalifa. It is also the tallest freestanding structure in the OECD, the G20 and G7 countries.
The Mizuho Bank Uchisaiwaichō Head Office Building is a 143 m (469 ft) tall office skyscraper in Tokyo, Japan. At 38 stories the building is the 86th tallest building in Tokyo. It contains 1.4 million sq ft of office space, 100% of which is now occupied by Mizuho Bank, the consumer banking arm of the second-largest Japanese financial conglomerate Mizuho Financial Group, while still called the DKB Head Office from time to time.
World Trade Center Building (世界貿易センタービル) was a 40-story commercial skyscraper located in Hamamatsuchō, Minato, Tokyo. Completed in 1970, the building is one of Japan's earliest skyscrapers. Upon its completion, the 163-meter-tall WTC Building took the title of Japan's tallest skyscraper from the Kasumigaseki Building; it retained this title until Keio Plaza Hotel's North Tower was completed one year later.
Toranomon Hills is a skyscraper complex built by Mori Building in the Toranomon district of Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Designed by Nihon Sekkei, it is located around the new Loop Road No. 2, a surface artery that connects the Shinbashi and Toranomon districts.

The skyscraper is set to be a mixed-used building including residential, office and retail space.

Tokiwabashi Tower is a skyscraper at the Tokyo Torch redevelopment district in Tokyo, Japan. It was completed on June 30, 2021, as the 28th tallest building in Japan.
The Asia Plaza is a vision supertall skyscraper that will rise 431 m (1,414 ft) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The building will comprise 103 floors above ground as well as 7 basement levels. It is a part of the Asia Plaza Tri-Tower Complex, that comprise three buildings: the 103-storey Asia Plaza, the 49-storey Far Eastern Ding Ding Hotel and the 18-storey Mega'21 Far Eastern Shopping Complex, of which only the shopping complex was completed in 2001.
The Tokyo Rinkai Subway Line (東京臨海地下鉄線) is the tentative name for a planned underground heavy rail line which will run north-south between Tokyo Station and the Ariake district along Tokyo Bay. As of 25 November 2022, the projected completion date is in the 2040s.
