The Toledo Rockets baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. [2] The team is a member of the Mid-American Conference West division, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Toledo's first baseball team was fielded in 1921. The team plays its home games at Scott Park Baseball Complex in Toledo, Ohio.

Contents

Toledo, along with Northern Illinois, are the only MAC schools to never win the Mid-American Conference baseball tournament, but the Rockets are the only MAC school to never reach the NCAA tournament.

History

In 1999, Joe Kruzel became the first Toledo manager to be named the MAC Coach of the Year. Jeremy Griffiths was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year in the same season. [3]

In 2012, the Rockets were the regular season champions of the MAC West division for the first time in their history. [4]

On May 20, 2019, Cory Mee stepped down as head coach after 16 seasons. [5] On July 8, 2019, Rob Reinstetle was hired as head coach. [6]

In 2021, Chris Meyers was named the Mid-American Conference Baseball Player of the Year. He was the first player in program history to receive that honor. [7]

Toledo has won the MAC regular season twelve times but has won only one MAC Tournament title. Their current head coach is Tod Kowalczyk.

The Toledo Rockets football team is a college football program in Division I FBS, representing the University of Toledo. The Rockets compete in the Mid-American Conference. Toledo began playing football in 1917, although it did not field teams in 1931, 1943, 1944, and 1945. Since the inception of the AP Poll in 1936, Toledo has finished in the Top 25 four times with its highest finish coming in 1970 when it ranked No. 12 after finishing 12–0. Toledo has a 12-10 record in bowl games. The Rockets were the 2017 MAC champions. The team's head coach is Jason Candle.

The Bowling Green Falcons baseball team is a varsity athletic program at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, The team plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level as a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons have played in three NCAA Tournaments, going in 1972, 1999, and 2013. The program has 13 regular-season conference championships, six East Division championships, and three conference tournament championships. The most recent regular-season championship came in 2024. The 1921 team was the first athletic team at the school to win a title, when they finished 6–1–2 in the Northwest Ohio League.

Cory Thomas Mee is an American college baseball coach and former third baseman, who is the current associate head baseball coach and catching coach for the Western Michigan Broncos. Mee grew up in Hilton, New York, and graduated from Hilton High School in 1988. He played college baseball at the University of Notre Dame from 1989 to 1992, before playing professionally for the Yakima Bears in 1992. He served as the head coach at the University of Toledo from 2004 to 2019.

The 1971 Toledo Rockets football team was an American football team that represented the University of Toledo in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) during the 1971 NCAA University Division football season. In their first season under head coach Jack Murphy, the Rockets compiled a 12–0 record, outscored all opponents by a combined total of 383 to 96, and won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship. The season ended with a 28–3 victory over Southern Conference champion Richmond in the 1970 Tangerine Bowl. The Rockets were ranked No. 14 in the final AP Poll and No. 13 in the final UPI Poll.

The 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began February 15, 2019. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2019 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 26, 2019. The Vanderbilt Commodores won the tournament, and were consequently named national champions.

Rob Reinstetle is an American college baseball coach and former player. He is the head baseball coach at the University of Toledo. Reinstetle played college baseball at Ohio Dominican University in 1999.

The Mid-American Conference Baseball Player of the Year is an annual award given to the Mid-American Conference's most outstanding baseball player. The award was first given after the 1986 season. As of 2024, Ohio's Rudy Rott is the only two-time winner of the award.

The 2023 MAC tournament was held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio for the 23rd consecutive season.

The 2022–23 Toledo Rockets men's basketball team represented the University of Toledo during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Rockets, led by 13th-year head coach Tod Kowalczyk, played their home games at Savage Arena, as members of the Mid-American Conference. They won their third straight regular season championship with a 16-2 record in MAC Play. They defeated Miami and Ohio in the first two rounds of the MAC tournament before losing to Kent State in the final. As a regular season champion who did not win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament, where they lost to Michigan in the first round.
