Tolley is a British publishing company that publishes reference books on tax.

History

The company was established in 1916 by Charles H. Tolley. [1]

In the 1970s Tolley was part of the Benn Group of companies. [2] The Benn companies were taken over by the Extel Group in June 1983, [3] [4] which itself was taken over by United Newspapers in 1987. [3] [5] In 1996 the company was acquired by the publisher Butterworths, part of the Reed Elsevier group of companies, [6] [7] which now exists as LexisNexis UK but continues to publish under the Butterworths imprint.

Bristol Bus Boycott 1963 protest against racial discrimination on public buses in Bristol, UK

The Bristol Bus Boycott of 1963 arose from the refusal of the Bristol Omnibus Company to employ Black or Asian bus crews in the city of Bristol, England. In line with many other British cities at the time, there was widespread racial discrimination in housing and employment against so-called "Coloureds". An organisation founded by Roy Hackett and led by youth worker Paul Stephenson as the spokesperson of the group which included Owen Henry, Audley Evans, Prince Brown and Guy Bailey and the West Indian Development Council, the boycott of the company's buses by Bristolians lasted for four months until the company backed down and overturned their discriminative colour bar policy.

William G. Sesler was a former Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, serving from 1961 to 1972. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 1970 United States Senate election in Pennsylvania against Hugh Scott.

Typhoon Ruby (1988) Pacific typhoon in 1988

Typhoon Ruby, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Unsang, was the strongest typhoon to strike the Philippines in 18 years. The tenth typhoon of the 1988 Pacific typhoon season, Ruby formed from an area of low pressure situated east of the Philippines on October 20. The storm steadily intensified as it moved west, and then west-northwest. After developing an eye, Ruby attained typhoon intensity on October 23 and began to strengthen at a brisker clip. Ruby reached maximum intensity later that day, before moving ashore along the central portion of Luzon early on October 24. The storm steadily weakened over land and this trend only continued after Ruby entered the South China Sea. On October 27, Ruby made a second landfall as a tropical storm on Hainan Island before dissipating the next day.

Travers Jr. was an American attorney and judge who served as the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts from 1969 to 1971 and later served as a Massachusetts Superior Court judge. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1928, Travers died on December 26, 2013 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Bristol Packet Boat Trips is a limited company offering public and charter excursions in Bristol Harbour and on the River Avon. The company has four boats: the river launch Tower Belle, narrowboat Redshank, glass-topped Bagheera and locally built Flower of Bristol. The company also has an interest in Bristol Hydrogen Boats which has commissioned and built a hydrogen powered ferry boat.
