Prior to that,he served in the Arizona State Senate,where in his final term,he was also elected as the President of the Senate. Before that he served six terms in the Arizona House of Representatives.
Pete Rios was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives and the Arizona Senate,serving two stretches in the Senate and a single term in the House. He first ran,unsuccessfully,for the House in 1980. In 1982 he ran for the State Senate,winning the seat from Arizona's 7th District. He won re-election in 1984,1986,1988,1990,and 1992. He served as the Senate President during the 40th Legislature from 1991 to 1992. In 1994,he did not run for re-election to the Senate,instead choosing to run for the Arizona Secretary of State,a bid for which he was unsuccessful. In 1996 Rios once again ran for the Senate,regaining his seat in District 7. He won election three times,the first two in 1998 and 2000 to District,and then to District 23 in 2002,after re-districting. In 2004,due to Arizona's term limit laws,Rios was unable to run again for the Senate,and chose to run for the House seat from District 23,which he won. He won re-election in 2006. He did not run for re-election in 2008.
Theodore Wayne Carpenter was an American politician who served as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 1999 until 2007. He was first elected to the House in November 1998,representing District 19,and was re-elected in 2000. After redistricting in 2002,Carpenter was again re-elected in both 2002 and 2004,now representing District 6. Not eligible to run for the House in 2006 due to Arizona's term limits,he ran for the Arizona State Senate,but lost to Pamela Gorman in the Republican primary. Gorman went on to win the general election.
Steve Huffman is an American politician who is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives,serving from January 1999 until January 2007. He was first elected to the House in November 1998,representing District 12,and won re-election to that district in 2000. After redistricting in 2002,Huffman was reelected in both 2002,now representing District 26,and 2004.
Ted Downing is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives from January 2003 until January 2007. In 2000 he ran for the State House of Representatives for District 13. Along with Gabrielle Giffords,he was one of the two candidates to win the Democratic primary. However,in the general election,while Giffords won,Downing came in third,losing to Carol Somers. In November 2002,he ran again for the house,this time in District 28 following redistricting,and won. He won re-election to the House in 2004. In 2006,Downing decided not to seek re-election to the House,and chose to run for the State Senate. However,he lost in the Democrat primary to Paula Aboud,who ran unopposed in the general election. He ran again in the 2010 election for the Senate seat from District 28,this time as an independent,finishing a distant third in the election.
Sylvia Laughter was an American politician who was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from January 1999 until January 2005. She was the first Navajo woman to serve in the Arizona legislature,as well as the first and only politically independent legislator to serve in the state legislature since Arizona's statehood in 1912.
John Loredo is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives from January 1997 until January 2005. Prior to running for the Arizona House,he ran unsuccessfully for the Phoenix City Council in 1992. In 1994 he worked on the unsuccessful campaign for governor of Eddie Basha Jr. He was first elected to the House in November 1996,representing District 22,and was re-elected to that same district in 1998 and 2000. After redistricting in 2002,he ran unopposed for re-election in District 13,along with fellow Democrat Steve Gallardo.
Jim Carruthers is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives from January 1997 until January 2005. He was first elected to the House in November 1996,representing District 5,and was re-elected to that same district in 1998 and 2000. After redistricting in 2002,he ran for re-election in District 24 and won. Due to Arizona's term limit law,he was unable to run for re-election in 2004.
Herb Guenther was an American politician who was a member of both the Arizona House of Representatives and the Arizona State Senate. He served in the House from January 1987 until January 1993. He was first elected to the House in November 1986,representing District 5,and was re-elected in 1990 and 1992. In 1998 he ran for the Arizona Senate,and was elected,representing District 5. He won re-election to the Senate in 2000,but did not run for re-election in 2002. He died on December 17,2021,at the age of 80.
Ramon Valadez is a former member of both the Arizona House of Representatives and the Arizona State Senate. He served in the House from January 1997 until January 2001,and in the Senate from January 2001 through January 2003. He was first elected to the House in November 1996,representing District 10,and was re-elected in 1998. In 2000,Valadez ran for the State Senate seat in the same district and won. He ran for re-election in 2002,in the newly redistricted District 29,and won. He did not take the oath of office in January 2003,and was replaced by Victor Soltero.
Edward Cirillo is a former member of the Arizona State Senate. He served in the House from January 1997 until January 2003. He was first elected to the House in November 1996,representing District 15,and was re-elected in 1998 and 2000. After redistricting in 2002,he ran for re-election in District 4,but lost in the Republican primary to Jack Harper.

After redistricting in 2002,he ran for re-election,this time in District 16,but lost in the Democrat primary to Leah Landrum Taylor and Ben Miranda. He again ran in 2006 in District,but once more lost in the Democrat primary,this time to Cloves Campbell Jr. and Ben Miranda.
