Kennedy signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2019, after participating in a rookie minicamp. [4] He was waived on August 31, as part of final roster cuts at the end of training camp but was re-signed to the team's practice squad the following day. [5] Kennedy was promoted to the Lions' active roster on September 27. [6] Kennedy made his NFL debut on September 29, against the Kansas City Chiefs. [7] He was waived on October 14 and re-signed to the practice squad. [8] On December 30, Kennedy was signed to a reserve/future contract by the Lions. [9]
On September 5, 2020, Kennedy was waived by the Lions and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. [10] [11] He signed a reserve/future contract with Detroit on January 5, 2021. [12]
On October 17, 2021, due to injuries to fellow receivers Tyrell Williams and Quintez Cephus, Kennedy caught his first NFL catch in a 34–11 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the same game, he also returned four kicks for 83 yards. [13] He was waived on November 8, and re-signed to the practice squad. [14] He was promoted back to the active roster on November 20. On January 9, 2022, Kennedy recorded his first NFL touchdown, throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass to Kalif Raymond on a trick play against the Green Bay Packers. Kennedy signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions on January 20, 2025. [27] Kennedy was released by the Lions on August 26, as a part of final roster cuts, and was subsequently re-signed to the practice squad. [28] [29] He was promoted to the active roster on November 26. [30] In six appearances for Detroit during the regular season, Kennedy recorded four receptions for 36 scoreless yards.
On March 12, 2026, Kennedy re-signed with the Lions. [31] On August 30, Kennedy was released by Detroit as a part of final roster cuts; he was re-signed to the team's practice squad the following day.
