Tom Osander aka Tomo (born John Thomas Osander Jr. on 6 October 1966) [1] is an American drummer, percussionist and producer. Osander co-founded seminal New York City based jam band God Street Wine. He is also associated with Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, and Hanna Leess.

Born in Princeton, New Jersey Osander was a member of the New York City jam band God Street Wine from 1988 to 1998, recording six albums and performing more than 1,000 shows, touring with bands such as The Allman Brothers, Bruce Hornsby and the Black Crowes. [2]

In 1999 Osander moved to Killarney, Ireland, to briefly join the alternative, Killarney-based rock band Poor Uncle Harry. [3]
He began working with Damien Rice in 2000 and over the next several years recorded both the albums "O" and "9". During his time with Rice he recorded the Billie Holiday song Don't Explain with Herbie Hancock for his 2005 Possibilities album [4]
In the summer of 2007 he left Rice to concentrate on Lisa Hannigan's solo career, recording her first album Sea Sew in 2008 and touring with her until 2010. The album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2009. [5]

In 2010 Osander relocated to Berlin, Germany and recorded and/or toured with various artists including Gemma Hayes, Eric Penny, Ultan Conlon, Peter Doran and American singer Hanna Leess, with whom he co-produced her 2016 album Dirty Mouth Sweet Heart on PIAS/CNTCT Recordings. [6] [7]

Also in 2010 God Street Wine reformed to play several reunion shows. [8] The band would continue to perform sporadically up to present day. These reunion shows included several dates as the "Friends" in Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and Friends in January 2013. [9]

Osander, with his partner Tanja Raab, have produced several benefit shows over the years under the name Double Donkey Productions. These include the 2004 Concert for Bam (in aid of the victims of the Stephens Day earthquake in Iran) at Vicar Street in Dublin and the 2010 Thomastown Community Kindergarten Benefit featuring Paul Noonan and Gavin Glass at the Bridgebrook Arms in Kilkenny, Ireland.

God Street Wine is a jam band from New York City. Their music is an amalgam of rock, jazz, bluegrass, funk, psychedelia, pop, Americana, reggae, progressive, and more. The band broke up in 1999 and reunited in 2009. GSW played a significant role in the development of the improvisational jam band scene of the early 1990s. Their earliest days include playing Nightingale's and The Wetlands Preserve in New York City where their contemporaries were The Spin Doctors, Blues Traveler, Jono Manson and the Dreyer Brothers. From their earliest days, fans of the band were known as Winos. This group of dedicated fans would follow them from gig to gig. When their touring base expanded Winos would sometimes drive hours to see the band. GSW was an early adapter of internet marketing, acquiring a domain name and electronic mailing list ahead of many others in the scene. They also maintained a snail mail list and telephone hotline fans could call to get tour dates from a recorded message. Occasionally callers would be surprised by a band member answering the phone and replying to their inquiry personally.

"The Blower's Daughter" is the debut single by Irish musician Damien Rice, released on 21 September 2001 through 14th Floor Records. It was released as the lead single for Rice's debut studio album O. It was written and produced by Rice and features vocals by Lisa Hannigan.

"Unplayed Piano" is a 2005 single by the Irish singer-songwriter duo Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. It was released in June 2005 and appeared in a total of six charts, spending a total of twenty-five weeks there. It spent twelve weeks in the Irish Singles Chart after entering on 23 June 2005, breaking into the Top 10 and achieving a peak of fourth position. It remained in fourth position for two weeks before falling to seventh position where it spent a further three weeks. The song peaked at number 24 in the UK Singles Chart and number 36 in the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. "Unplayed Piano" was released on the DRM label and featured Rice's usual backing band of Vyvienne Long, Tom Osander and Shane Fitzsimons.
