Tom Owen is a historian and Democratic politician in Louisville,Kentucky,former Metro Council President,and former councilman for District 8,a position he held from 2003 to 2017. Prior to that,he had served on the old Board of Aldermen from 1990 to 1998. He is a full professor at the University of Louisville,and has worked at the school since 1968. He holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Kentucky,a Bachelor of Divinity from Methodist Theological School in Ohio,and a Bachelor of Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College. He and his wife,Phyllis,have a daughter,two sons and seven grandchildren. [1]
He challenged eventual mayor David L. Armstrong in the 1998 Democratic mayoral primary. [2]
Owen grew up in the Parkland neighborhood and lives in the Tyler Park area. He was once a practicing Methodist minister. He is a local historian and activist,particularly with causes related to alternative transportation,and is known for advocating and practicing use of the bicycle for transportation and commuting. He also leads historic tours of Louisville landmarks,called Tom Owen's Louisville. [3]

Jerry Edwin Abramson is an American Democratic politician who was the 55th lieutenant governor of Kentucky. On November 6,2014,Governor Steve Beshear announced that Abramson would step down from his position as lieutenant governor to accept the job of Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the Obama White House. He was replaced by former State Auditor Crit Luallen.
Patrick Kelly Downard is the former Republican Councilman for the 16th District of Louisville Metro in Kentucky in the United States of America and served as Metro Council President from 2004 to 2005. Downard previously held the title of President of Louisville Community Development Bank,to which he was appointed by Mayor Jerry E. Abramson. Before being appointed by Abramson,Downard held the titles of President of the PNC Mortgage Company and Senior Vice President of PNC Private Banking. In 2005,Downard filed to be a candidate in the 2006 Louisville Metro Mayor election.
The Louisville Metro Council is the city council of Louisville,Kentucky. It was formally established in January 2003 upon the merger of the former City of Louisville with Jefferson County and replaced the city's Board of Aldermen and the county's Fiscal Court. Louisville City Hall houses the offices and chambers of the council.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) began operations on January 6,2003,as part of the creation of the consolidated city-county government in Louisville,Kentucky,United States. It was formed by the merger of the Jefferson County Police Department and the Louisville Division of Police. The Louisville Metro Police Department has been headed by Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel since January 2,2023. LMPD divides Jefferson County into eight patrol divisions and operates a number of special investigative and support units. The LMPD is currently negotiating a consent decree with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) subsequent to a 2023 investigation by the DOJ that concluded that the LMPD engaged in a decades long pattern of civil rights abuses.

Darryl T. Owens was an American politician who was a Democratic Party member of the Kentucky House of Representatives,representing District 43 from 2005 to 2019. Owens retired from the House in 2018. He died on January 4,2022,at the age of 84.

James P. Gray II is an American politician who is the Kentucky Secretary of Transportation in the administration of Governor Andy Beshear. He is the former mayor of Lexington,Kentucky from 2011 to 2019. Gray served as the city's vice-mayor from 2006 to 2010 before being elected mayor in November 2010. Gray won re-election to another four-year term on November 4,2014. In 2016,he ran for the United States Senate seat held by U.S. Senator Rand Paul. Gray won the May 17 Democratic primary with nearly 60% of the vote but lost the November 8 general election to Paul. Gray was Chairman and CEO of Gray Construction,an engineering,design,and construction company headquartered in Lexington. Once elected,he took an advisory role as Chair of the Board of Directors to focus on his role as mayor.
David Warren Tandy is a retired American Democratic Party politician in Louisville,Kentucky,he served as a member of the Louisville Metro Council,representing District 4. Originally appointed by the Metro Council to fill the vacancy left by the death of former councilman Willie Bright,Tandy served from April 14,2005,until he decided to not run for reelection in 2016. Tandy served as interim President of the Louisville Metro Council from 2015 to 2016,temporarily filling the vacancy left by the death of then Council President Jim King. He was succeeded as President by David Yates.
The 2019 Kentucky gubernatorial election took place on November 5,2019,to elect the governor and lieutenant governor of Kentucky. The Democratic nominee,Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear,defeated Republican incumbent Matt Bevin by just over 5,000 votes,or 0.37%,making this the closest gubernatorial election in Kentucky since 1899 by total votes,and the closest since 1915 by percentage. It was also the closest race of the 2019 gubernatorial election cycle.
