Gaetano (Tony) Pagone AM QC is a retired Australian judge who previously served as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 21 June 2013 until 31 March 2018. [1] [3] Until 21 June 2013, he was a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria in the Australian state of Victoria. [4] [5]

He completed secondary education at De La Salle College, Malvern and completed tertiary education at Monash University, graduating B.A., Dip.Ed., LL.B. [6] In 1983, he obtained an LL.M. from Trinity Hall, Cambridge. [7] In 2001, he was awarded a Monash Distinguished Alumni Award. [6] Pagone was appointed as Queen's Counsel in 1996. [8]

He was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 2001, and served until June 2002, when he took up the position of special counsel to the Commissioner of Taxation until December 2003. He was appointed to the Supreme Court again in May 2007, and was the judge in charge of the Commercial Court. [9] He is a professorial fellow at the University of Melbourne. [10]

The Honorable Tony Pagone QC was appointed as Commissioner to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety on 13 September 2019.

In 2022, Pagone was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2022 Australia Day Honours for "significant service to the law, to the judiciary, and to professional associations". [11]

Michael Rozenes is the former Chief Judge of the County Court of Victoria, an intermediate court in Victoria, Australia. He presided over the County Court for thirteen years, retiring in June 2015.

Raymond Antony Finkelstein is an Australian lawyer and judge. From 1997 until 2011, he served as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia. His judgments were highly influential in commercial law, giving rise to new approaches in insolvency, competition law and class actions.

Peter Louis Waller was an Australian jurist. He was particularly well known for his work in evidence, medical and criminal law. He was Sir Leo Cussen Professor of Law at Monash University from 1965 until 2000, and thereafter Emeritus Professor. From 1968 to 1970 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Monash University. Reginald Allfree Smithers was an Australian lawyer and judge. Smithers educated at Melbourne Grammar School. Admitted to the Bar in 1929, he was appointed a King's Counsel in 1951. was a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 1 February 1977 to 30 September 1986. Smithers was the Chancellor of La Trobe University from 1972 to 1980. He was knighted in the 1980 New Year Honours for service to law.
