The Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol is the most important professional club basketball league in Uruguay. It is organized by the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB). The Uruguayan Basketball League competition began in 2003. Before that time, the Uruguayan basketball championships were only local metropolitan, and no competitions brought together all the clubs in the country. Until the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol was created, the capital clubs participated in the Campeonato Uruguayo Federal de Básquetbol, while the clubs of the rest of the country competed in regional tournaments. The Uruguayan Federal Basketball Championship was founded in 1915, making it among the oldest on the continent.
The 2018 Peruvian promotion play-offs or Cuadrangular de Ascenso 2018 was held in December 2018 with all games being played at Estadio Miguel Grau, Callao. The play-offs determined the third and fourth team to be promoted to the Torneo Descentralizado following that tournament's expansion. The teams place 2nd and 3rd in the 2018 Peruvian Segunda División and 2018 Copa Perú took part in the promotion play-offs. The top two placed team in the play-offs gained promotion in the 2019 Torneo Descentralizado and the bottom two qualified to the 2019 Peruvian Segunda División.
Club Atlético Independiente has success at the Argentine football level, but they are widely known for their international titles and appearances, being nicknamed Rey de Copas by the media and his fans. The first international cup they took part was the 1917 Tie Cup, which they lost to Uruguayan team Montevideo Wanderers. In term of international honours, Independiente has won a total of twenty one official titles, with 18 of them organised by CONMEBOL which makes Independiente the most winning team in this category, together with Boca Juniors. International titles also include two Copa Aldao, organised by AFA and AUF together.
The 2020 South American U-17 Women's Championship was originally going be the seventh edition of the South American Under-17 Women's Football Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-17 national teams of South America. It was scheduled to be held in Uruguay between 15 April and 3 May 2020, before its suspension and subsequent cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 Torneio Internacional de Manaus de Futebol Feminino was the tenth edition of the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino, an invitational women's football tournament held every December in Brazil. The tournament ran in between 25 November–1 December, 2021.
