Tour de Flores (abbreviated TdF) is a multi-day cycling race on the Indonesian island of Flores. It is part of UCI Asia Tour in category 2.2. [1] Aside from Larantuka, Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park, the cyclists race along natural and cultural wonders of Flores Island such as the tricolor lake on Mt. Kelimutu, the megalithic village of Bena, and the exiled house of Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno in Ende. Tour de Flores had become an annual international cycling event since 2016.

The event was held from May 16 to 26. Cyclists from twenty countries participated in the cycling tour, with a total race length of 661.5 kilometers, starting from the capital city of East Flores Regency, Larantuka to Labuan Bajo, the capital of West Manggarai Regency. [2]
Tour de Flores (TdF) 2017 was held from July 14 to 19. A change of route had been made, the race extended from 661.5 kilometers to 808 kilometers due to an additional new route from Aegela to Mbay in Nagekeo Regency. [3] Twenty teams, including 17 foreign teams from the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Thailand and Malaysia participated the event. Flores is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, a group of islands in the eastern half of Indonesia. Including Komodo Island off its west coast, the land area is 15,530.58 km2, and the population was 1,878,875 in the 2020 Census ; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 1,919,395. The largest towns are Maumere and Ende. The name Flores is of Portuguese origin, meaning "Flowers".
Alor is the largest island in the Alor Archipelago and is one of the 92 officially listed outlying islands of Indonesia. It is located at the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands that runs through southeastern Indonesia, which from the west include such islands as Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Komodo, and Flores.

It covers an area of 1,731.91 km2 and had a population of 300,301 at the 2010 census and 321,953 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 326,999. The capital is the town of Maumere, which comprises the districts of Alok Barat, Alok and Alok Timur.
Maumere is the administrative seat of the Sikka Regency and the second largest town on Flores Island, Indonesia. It lies on the north coast of the island and the port is in the north-west part of the town. Administratively the town is not a single district (kecamatan) within the regency, but is divided into three districts – Alok Barat, Alok and Alok Timur – although the latter two districts also include a number of substantial islands off the north coast of Flores.
Larantuka is a kecamatan (district) and the seat capital of East Flores Regency, on the eastern end of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Like much of the region, Larantuka has a strong colonial Portuguese influence. The town had 37,348 inhabitants at the 2010 census and 40,828 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 41,884. This overwhelmingly (95.4%) Roman Catholic area enjoys some international renown for its Holy Week celebrations.

West Manggarai Regency is one of the eight regencies which comprise the island of Flores, located in the province of East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia. The Regency was created on 25 February 2003 by separation off the western districts of Manggarai Regency. It covers a land area of 3,141.47 km2, and had a population of 221,703 at the 2010 census, rising to 251,689 at the 2015 Intermediate census and to 256,317 at the 2020 census. The official estimate as at mid 2022 was 263,687. The regency's capital is the town of Labuan Bajo.
Nagekeo Regency is a regency on the island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 1,416.96 km2 and had a population of 130,120 at the 2010 Census, and 159,732 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 166,002. Established on 2 January 2007 by separation of the eastern districts from Ngada Regency, the regency has its administrative seat (capital) in the town of Mbay on the north coast of Flores. It is bordered to the west by the residual Ngada Regency and to the east by Ende Regency.
PT TransNusa Aviation Mandiri, operating as TransNusa, is an Indonesian low-cost carrier based in Jakarta Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. It was launched in August 2005, serving various destinations from Kupang, Timor, using aircraft chartered from Pelita Air and Trigana Air Service. In August 2011, TransNusa received its own air operator's certificate (AOC) and scheduled commercial airline permit, operating as a regional carrier. The airline relaunched as a low-cost carrier in 2022 after briefly ceasing operations in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Labuan Bajo is a fishing town located at the western end of the large island of Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia. It is the capital of the West Manggarai Regency, one of the eight regencies which are the major administrative divisions of Flores.
Tour de Singkarak is an annual professional road bicycle racing stage race held in West Sumatra, Indonesia, and named after the Lake Singkarak. First staged in 2009, Tour de Singkarak is classified by the Union Cycling International (UCI) as a 2.2 category race as part of the UCI Asia Tour. It covers more than 1267 kilometres — from/to Padang passing around lake Singkarak and runs through inland West Sumatran cities — and lasted for a week and held annually. This exciting tour across the picturesque West Sumatra countryside's scenic landscapes, comprising beaches, blue lakes, and numerous hairpin bends, as they climb up to the foot of the volcanoes. The total prize money is IDR 1,000,000,000 (US$100,000). BNI-Maybank was the platinum sponsor of the Tour De Singkarak since 2009 with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Indonesia. TDS is the biggest international cycling race in Indonesia, having the fifth largest audience in the world, it attracted many top international cyclists to participate in this world famous annual sports event.

Caci is a form of fighting with a whip or stick. It appears to be indigenous to Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, but it is also practiced in neighboring islands of Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. The art is sometimes called cacing or ende in Flores, and larik or kebat in Riung, while in Balinese it is known as ende.
An earthquake occurred 112 km, offshore, north of Maumere in the Flores Sea on December 14. The quake had a moment magnitude of 7.3 according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). One person was killed and 173 others suffered injuries.
