Synchronized swimming or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics. It has traditionally been a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and LEN introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. From 2024, men will be able to compete in the team event at the Olympics.
The swimming competitions of the 1984 Summer Olympics were held at the McDonald's Olympic Swim Stadium, located on the University of Southern California (USC) campus. There were a total of 494 participants from 67 countries competing.
Water polo has been part of the Summer Olympics program since the second games, in 1900. A women's water polo tournament was introduced for the 2000 Summer Olympics. Hungary has been the most successful country in men's tournament, while the United States is the only team to win multiple times at the women's tournament since its introduction. Italy is the first and only country to win both the men's and women's water polo tournaments.

Margot A. Thien is an American competitor in synchronized swimming and Olympic champion. She was part of the American team that received a gold medal in synchronized swimming at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Rebekah Dyroen-Lancer is an American competitor in synchronised swimming and Olympic champion.
Huang Xuechen is a Chinese Olympic synchronised swimmer.
Anna Kozlova is a former synchronized swimmer who competed in three Olympic Games. After competing in the 1992 Summer Olympics and winning four European Championships representing the Soviet Union and its successor organizations, she defected to the United States in 1993. After missing the 1996 Atlanta Games due to a five-year wait to receive U.S. citizenship, she competed for her new country in Sydney, where her best placing was fourth. She went on to win gold medals in the Pan-American Games in 2003, before returning to her third and final Olympics in Athens, where she won two bronze medals.

Inna Yoffe is an Israeli Olympic synchronized swimmer.
Tarren Otte is an Australian Olympic synchronized swimmer. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in synchronized swimming.
Sahar Helal was a synchronized swimmer from Egypt. She competed in the women's solo event in synchronized swimming competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She was the youngest participant in synchronized swimming event aged 15 years, 116 days then.
Heba Muhammad Tawfiq Abdel Gawad is a synchronized swimmer, she represented Egypt at women's duet event in synchronized swimming at two Summer Olympics tournaments; 2000 and 2004. Her twin sister Sara Abdel Gawad is also a synchronized swimmer, they competed together in women's duet event in 2000 Summer Games.
Sara Muhammad Tawfiq Abdel Gawad is a synchronized swimmer, she represented Egypt at women's duet event in synchronized swimming at 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Her twin sister Heba Abdel Gawad is also a synchronized swimmer, they competed together in women's duet event in 2000 Summer Games.
