Trade Union Pro (Finnish : Ammattiliitto Pro) is a collective force of working life and one of the largest trade unions in Finland. Pro's members are educated professionals, experts and managers in a wide array of sectors from finance to ICT and communications, service fields and industries to the public sector. Pro has some 120 000 members and negotiates 150 collective agreements.

Pro's mission is to improve the working conditions, livelihoods and career prospects of our members and those studying these fields. The union also looks after the well-being of its members.

Trade Union Pro believes that a humane working life is a human right. The union foresees international developments and phenomena and develops new solutions for the Finnish working life.

History

The union was founded in 2011, when the Trade Union Direct merged with the Union of Salaried Employees. Like its predecessors, the union is under the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK). [1]

On formation, the union was led by Antti Rinne. He stood down in 2014, and was succeeded by Jorma Malinen. [2] In 2019, the Confederation of State Employees' Unions – Pardia merged into Pro, totaling the member count to about 120,000. [3] In 2021, the Union of Insurance Employees also merged with Pro. TCO is an affiliate of the European Trade Union Confederation and Eurocadres.

The Swedish Trade Union Confederation, commonly referred to as LO, is a national trade union centre, an umbrella organisation for fourteen Swedish trade unions that organise mainly "blue-collar" workers. The Confederation, which gathers around 1.5 million employees out of Sweden's 10 million people population, was founded in 1898 by blue-collar unions on the initiative of the 1897 Scandinavian Labour Congress and the Swedish Social Democratic Party, which almost exclusively was made up by trade unions. The Confederation of Finnish Industries is the largest employers' association in Finland. It was formed at the beginning of 2005 when the two employers' associations Palvelutyönantajat and Teollisuuden ja Työnantajain Keskusliitto merged. EK's member companies collectively contribute over 70% of Finland's GDP, and over 95% of Finland's exports. It has considerable negotiating power, since Finland has universal validity of collective labour agreements, and often a national income policy agreement is reached.

The Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland (Akava) is a trade union confederation in Finland representings employees with university-level, professional or other high-level training. It has 36 affiliated unions with a combined membership of 611,000.

The Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) is a trade union confederation in Finland. It has a membership of 650,000 and represents salaried employees in Finland.

The Union of Salaried Employees was a trade union in Finland. With 125,000 members, TU was a major trade union for workers in industry and industrial services, technics, economy and information.

The Confederation of State Employees' Unions was a trade union in Finland. The majority of Pardia's 60,000 members worked in governmental offices and institutions, while others were employed by public utility companies and enterprises. Approximately 50 percent of all Finnish state employees were members of Pardia.

Association of Employees in Government Educational Administration is the smallest of the member trade unions of Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals in Finland with 141 members. The union was founded in the early 20th century as the association of the Finnish school superintendents.

The Danish Trade Union Confederation is the largest national trade union centre in Denmark. On formation in 2019, it had 79 affiliated unions, with a total of 1.4 million members.

The Postal Officers' Union was a trade union representing postal service workers in Finland.

The Finnish Police Union is a trade union representing police and associated workers in Finland.

The Union of Insurance Employees is a trade union representing workers in the insurance industry in Finland.

The Bank Employees' Union was a trade union representing workers in the banking industry in Finland.

The Federation of Public and Private Sector Employees is a trade union representing local government workers in Finland.

The Union of Private Sector Professionals is a trade union representing a variety of private sector professionals.

The Union of Sales and Marketing Professionals is a trade union in Finland. It represents professionals working in sales, marketing, and purchasing. With its 20,000 members, MMA is one of the biggest affiliates of Akava, the Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland. MMA is a former member of STTK.
