Trans-Canada Advertising Agency Network

Last updated

The Trans-Canada Advertising Agency Network, or T-CAAN, is an association of 28 independent Canadian advertising agencies. The oldest and largest agency network in the country, it was founded in 1963 by seven member organizations. [1]

Contents

T-CAAN-member agencies assist each other when specific client needs arise. T-CAAN also serves as a forum for member agencies to share ideas and best practices. It has close ties with similar groups in the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Jamaica, Europe and Hong Kong. [2]

Membership

To join T-CAAN, an advertising agency must be sponsored by a current member agency and elected by the membership at-large based on their “experience, expertise, security, integrity and community service.” [3] Membership also has a regional basis, with all provinces and territories and most major Canadian cities represented in T-CAAN. Mountain Equipment Co-op Canadian consumers cooperative

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is a Canadian consumers' cooperative that sells outdoor recreation gear and clothing exclusively to its members. MEC is notable for its commitment to environmental protection and other causes. As a co-op, MEC sells only to customers who hold a lifetime membership, which is technically a share. MEC bills itself as Canada's largest supplier of outdoor equipment. Since its founding in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1971, MEC has expanded across Canada and now operates stores in 20 cities. Once catering to mountaineers and climbers, MEC now targets a broader, more urban clientele and is largely focused on clothing, cycling and yoga supplies. This is evidenced by changes in its marketing imagery, which historically focused on high level climbing and alpinist imagery. MEC has over 5.4 million members in Canada and internationally.
