Trey Woodbury (born September 17, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for Brose Bamberg. He played college basketball for UNLV and Utah Valley.

Early life and high school career

Woodbury was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. [1] He played high school basketball for Clark High School. [2] He was a nominee for Nevada's player of the year in 2017 and a national top 100 recruit. [3]

College career

He played in 22 games his freshman year at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. [4] Following the 2018–19 season, Woodbury transferred to Utah Valley University. [5]

On March 3, 2023, Trey recorded a triple-double, making him the third player to record a triple double in UVU history. [6] [7]

On March 12, 2023, he became the 9th player in school history to have over 1000 career points. [8]

While playing at Utah Valley University, Trey averaged 11.9 points, 3.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game. [9] He is one of nine Wolverines to have over 1000 career points; he sits 7th all-time among total career points for Utah Valley and 2nd all-time in total assists. [10] In the 2022–23 NCAA Basketball season, Woodbury set a program record 174 assists over 37 games. Averaging approximately 1.5 more assists per game than his career average. [11] This is the same season the Utah Valley Wolverines had a program record 28 wins and were semi-finalists in the National Invitational Tournament. [12] [13]

Trey spent most of the 2021–22 season recovering from injury resulting in him playing only 2 games. [14] Both games were the last of the season for Utah Valley and thus counted as the a year of eligibility with the NCAA. He entered the transfer portal at the end of his 2022–23 season [15] hoping to be granted a medical redshirt for the 2021-22 season but it was denied with his first appeal. [16]

The Wolverines, led by fourth-year head coach Mark Madsen, played their home games at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah, and competed as members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). They finished with an overall record of 24–7, 15–3 in WAC play, to finish in first place. In the 2023 WAC tournament, they defeated Tarleton in the quarterfinals before losing to Southern Utah in the semifinals the following day. As the conference leader who didn't win their tournament, they were offered an automatic bid to play in the NIT. They defeated New Mexico, Colorado, and Cincinnati to reach the semifinal round, where they finally fell to UAB in overtime, 86–88. With a final record of 28–9, the 2022–23 season marked the Wolverine's most successful season to date as a D-I program.

The 1997–98 UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team represented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The team was coached by Bill Bayno and played their home games at the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV's main campus in Paradise, Nevada as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Runnin' Rebels finished the season 20–13, 7–7 in WAC play. They won the 2000 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament to receive an automatic bid to the 1998 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, earning a No. 12 seed in the East Region. The Runnin' Rebels lost to No. 5 seed Princeton in the opening round. This was the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the program since back-to-back Final Four appearances in 1990 and 1991.

The conference began play in late November 2023. This is the WAC's 62nd season of basketball. The WAC competed with 11 teams due to two teams having left the conference since the prior season. Both New Mexico State and Sam Houston joined Conference USA effective July 1, 2023. The WAC tournament was held March 13–16, 2024 with the top eight teams competing for the automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament at Orleans Arena in the Las Vegas-area community of Paradise, Nevada.
