Biography

Triantafyllos Vaitsis, [1] [2] [3] studied Environmental Engineering [4] at Democritus University of Thrace. He started working as an environmental engineer in 2003. Since his early childhood he has been involved with different kinds of art at an amateur level such as painting, woodcarving, construction wire, theater and poetry. In 2008 he discovered Trash [5] Art. [6] Fascinated by it and seeking various techniques in order to deepen it, he came across a "Shadow Sculpture" (Shadow Art). [7] Since then he has been making sculptures of Shadow. [8] In 2013 he decided to abandon the profession of environmental engineer. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts in Greece. He is a permanent resident of Xanthi since 1994 and in 2014 he created the House of Shadow, [9] [10] [11]

His work

Inspired by his experiences and images of his own childhood and by the incomparable beauty of the city of Xanthi, [12] where he has lived for the last 20 years, he created the sculptures of Shadow. One of his most insightful works are the sculptures of double Shadow (Contrasts). One such project is the "Early Cycle" [13] which is a visualization of a poem of Vaitsis entitled "ropes". Other sculptures are the "Unbearable wildness of being", [14] the "Beginning of the End and the End of the Beginning". [15] Many other sculptures of portraiture [16] are added in his collection such as "Marilyn Monroe", [17] "Albert Einstein", [18] "Che Guevara" [19] and also "Romeo and Juliet" [20]

Among his latest creations there is a whole section of sculptures where "SOUL" [21] (Soul) (PSYCHE in Greek) is the main theme. The audience discovers a changing shadow that emerges from a rotating sculpture and creates images in their minds, until at some point, everybody sees the same shadow, where the word "PSYCHE" [22] is formed. In this collection there are also the Shadow sculptures called "Fertilization", "Amusement", "Joy", "Loss" and "Purification".
