Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill is a private, college preparatory, Independent, Christian school located in Durham, North Carolina in the United States. [1] Trinity's mission is to educate students in grades transitional Kindergarten to grade 12 within the framework of Christian faith and conviction-teaching the classical tools of learning, providing a rich yet unhurried education, and communicating truth, goodness, and beauty. [2] It has three divisions: Lower school (TK-6) Middle School (7-8) and Upper School. (9-12)
More than 70 local congregations of various denominations are represented in the student body at Trinity. Trinity does not require parents to be professing Christians and welcomes families and students from other faiths, as well as those from non religious backgrounds.
Lower school establishes a strong educational foundation for students while nurturing their character and integrity in the context of a Christian faith. Trinity helps students discover and strengthen their gifts so they can become who God has created them to be. Our teachers recognize the uniqueness of each child and create a classroom atmosphere in which students feel safe and secure. This is done with the help of small class sizes and teacher-student ratios. In TK and kindergarten, classes have 12–14 students, with a dedicated full-time assistant in each. Our first through third grade classes have up to 18 students along with a dedicated full-time assistant. Grades 4–6 remain small, with up to 18 students in each section. [3] Extracurriculars: In lower school, 6th graders are able to participate in Middle School sports. But there are other extracurriculars offered as well. -Afterschool (K-6) -Girls on the Run (3-5) -Chorus (3-6) -Strings and Band (4-6) -Theatre (4-6)
Middle School at Trinity is a transformative period marked by growth and self-discovery. Our division's mission is to lovingly shepherd students through these crucial adolescent years, anchoring them in a faithful and God-centered environment guided by the wisdom of 2 Peter 3:1 which urges us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Trinity's Middle School offers a rich curriculum with teachers who invest in the academic and personal success of students while providing the challenge and support necessary for them to recognize and develop their God-given gifts. [4]
Our Upper School faculty are committed to nurturing a rich learning environment. They understand the importance of deep content comprehension, providing ample opportunities for dialogue, reflection, discovery, and collaborative learning. With a significant portion of our faculty holding advanced degrees from prestigious universities and Christian institutions, they bring a blend of academic excellence and faith-based teaching to the classroom. Upper School teaches skills important for success in the 21st century “idea” economy by offering courses like Robotics and Model UN Global Studies that emphasize collaboration and problem-solving. Our curriculum integrates innovative projects across various disciplines, encouraging students to engage deeply with big questions and creative challenges. [5] A variety of clubs, electives, and athletics are offered, ranging from robotics to studio art.
Trinity is accredited as a TK–12 institution by Christian Schools International and the Southern Association of Independent Schools. Trinity School is a member of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools.
The Trinity School Athletics program offers three seasons of interscholastic sports for students in grades 6–12. Their mascot is Leo the Lion. [6]
