Madurai,formerly known by its colonial name Madura is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Madurai District,which is governed by the Madurai Municipal Corporation established in 1 November 1866. As of the 2011 census,it is the third largest metropolis in Tamil Nadu after Chennai and Coimbatore in terms of population and 27th largest urban agglomeration in India. Located on the banks of River Vaigai,Madurai has been a major settlement for two millennia and has a documented history of more than 2500 years. It is often referred to as "Thoonga Nagaram",meaning "the city that never sleeps".

The Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai is the oldest art institution in India. The institution was established in 1850 by surgeon Alexander Hunter as a private art school. K. M. Adimoolam was an Indian abstract artist. He was born in 1938 in Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. In 1959,he moved to Chennai where under the influence of the sculptor Dhanapal,he enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts. After completing his Diploma in Advanced Painting in 1966,Adimoolam started a series of black and white portraits of Mahatma Gandhi. The Dinakaran attack was a firebomb attack by M. K. Alagiri's supporters on 9 May 2007 on the Madurai office of Dinakaran,a Tamil language newspaper,which resulted in the deaths of three people. The attack was a response to a survey published by Dinakaran on who people preferred as the future heir of M. Karunanidhi,chief of the political party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). During mass protests throughout the region,the offices of the newspaper were firebombed and two press employees and a private security guard died. 17 people were charged by the Central Bureau of Investigation,but were all acquitted by the district court. Dayanidhi Maran resigned from the Union Cabinet,where he had been the minister for communications and information technology,as a result of the controversy surrounding the attack,which created a rift between him and DMK.
Uyarndha Manithan is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language drama film written by Javar Seetharaman and directed by Krishnan–Panju. The film was produced by A. V. Meiyappan,M. Saravanan,M. Kumaran and M. Murugan under AVM Productions. It stars Sivaji Ganesan and Sowcar Janaki,while S. A. Ashokan,Major Sundarrajan,Vanisri and Sivakumar play pivotal roles. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by M. S. Viswanathan,while the lyrics for the songs were written by Vaali.
Karatholuvu Chandrasekaran Sivasankaran,was a Padma Shri recipient Indian mythological artist who primarily contributed to the Indian Language magazine,Chandamama. Sankar was the artist behind the signature painting of the Vikram and Vetala series,featured in Chandamama. He was the last surviving member of the original Chandamama design team. The iconic painting,along with his trade-mark signature that he was recognized by,was drawn in the 1960s. It is one of the thousands he created for Chandamama. For decades,its illustrators defined the looks of the magazine. They used line drawings with style influenced by Indian,Oriental,Middle eastern and European artistic traditions.
P. Saravanan is an Indian politician and an actor. He was a former Member of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu from Thirupparankundram Constituency. He is currently serving as the Joint Secretary of AIADMK State Medical Wing.
P. Pandi,also known as "Attack" Pandi,is a gangster from the Madurai area of Tamil Nadu,India. He was an aide to former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri. He has at least 20 cases filed against him. He was leader of the Dinakaran attack in 2007,and the murderer of "Pottu" Suresh. He was sentenced to life in prison for that crime.
Mattuthavani Bus Stand,officially M.G.R. Bus Stand,is an integrated bus terminus in the city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu,India. This is the third-largest bus terminus in Tamil Nadu after Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus and Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus in Chennai. It is one of the busiest bus terminals in south Tamil Nadu and one of the most important hubs in the state.
