Trottick Mill Ponds and Nature Reserve is a local nature reserve located in the Trottick area in Dundee, Scotland. The nature reserve connects with the Dighty Burn and is voluntarily operated by Countryside Rangers as well as the Scottish Wildlife Trust and owned by Dundee City Council. [1]
Trottick Mill Ponds was originally created to be used as a water source for the nearby Claverhouse Bleachworks factory which was used for the cleaning and drying processes for the linen production in Dundee back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Sluice gates were installed to control the flow of water at the reserve and the use of a water wheel allowed water from the Dighty Burn to be pushed through into the reserve. [2]
The nature reserve is now popular among local residents and visitors to Dundee and is also used for educational purposes as well. [2] [3]
Trottick Ponds is a part of the Green Circular cycle route in Dundee, to which it received an extensive upgrade in 2016 and its feature as part of the Green Circular route contributed to it being featured by Herald Scotland as one of the top ten cycle routes in Scotland in 2020. [4] [5]
Trottick Ponds is also a location on the Claverhouse Equestrian route.
There are different types of wildlife found at Trottick Mill Ponds, most prominently, two resident mute swans. There are also many birds and ducks which inhabit the reserve area such as great tits, blue tits, European robins and seagulls. There is also various frogs and toads which inhabit the area as well. Roe deer can also be spotted at the northern side of the reserve.
Trottick Mill Ponds is maintained mainly by the Countryside Rangers who volunteer at the reserve. The sluice gates that were constructed at the reserve continue to be in use for the purpose of maintaining circulation of the water in the ponds. [2]
The River Blackwater is a tributary of the Loddon in England and sub-tributary of the Thames. It rises at two springs in Rowhill Nature Reserve between Aldershot, Hampshire and Farnham, Surrey. It curves a course north then west to join the Loddon in Swallowfield civil parish, central Berkshire. Part of the river splits Hampshire from Surrey; a smaller part does so as to Hampshire and Berkshire.

Sale Water Park is a 152-acre (62 ha) area of parkland including a 52-acre (21 ha) artificial lake in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. Opened in 1979 and owned by Trafford Council, the water park lies in an area of the green belt running through the Mersey river valley between Sale and Stretford, located between the river and the M60 motorway. The lake was formed in the 1970s by the flooding of a gravel pit excavated to provide material for the construction of an embankment raising the motorway 34 feet (10 m) above the Mersey's floodplain. The pit was excavated to a depth of around 115 feet (35 m), making the lake about 90 feet (27 m) deep in places.

Ashleworth Ham is a 104.73-hectare (258.8-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a large area of grassland on the Severn floodplain, north of Ashleworth in Gloucestershire, England. It is registered as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and was notified in 1974 and renotified in 1985. Ashleworth Ham received this designation because it is one of three sites in the Severn Vale where migratory waterfowl winter.
Moses Gate Country Park, part of which is also known as Crompton Lodges, is a 750 acre site situated at Moses Gate in the Croal and Irwell Valleys 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Bolton town centre on the A6053 road which connects Farnworth to Little Lever. It is a Local Nature Reserve.
Tegg's Nose is a hill east of Macclesfield in Cheshire, England. It has a short ridge with a high point of 380 metres (1,250 ft) at SJ947725, terminating in a promontory at the southern end. It lies on the western edge of the Peak District, although outside the boundary of the national park. Much of the hill's area falls within the Tegg's Nose Country Park, managed by Cheshire East Council Countryside Management Service; Tegg's Nose is also part of the Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme.
Riverside Country Park is a large coastal public park, situated alongside the River Medway estuary between Gillingham and Rainham. The park covers about 100 hectares. There are a variety of natural habitats within the park, including mudflats and salt marsh, ponds and reed-beds, grassland and scrub, which provide a haven for wildlife.
The Dollis Valley Greenwalk is a footpath route in the London Borough of Barnet in London, England, between Moat Mount Nature Reserve in Mill Hill and Hampstead Heath. The route is designed to act as a link between the Capital Ring and the London Loop, and between the many green spaces and wildlife corridors along the way. It is approximately 10 miles (16 km) long. It mainly follows the Dollis Brook and is one of the many parks and open spaces in Barnet.
Portrack Marsh Nature Reserve is a 50 acres (20 ha) reserve by the northern bank of the River Tees between the Tees Barrage and the Tees Viaduct, near Portrack housing estate in Stockton-on-Tees borough, County Durham. It is the last remaining wetland on the lower Tees. The site is bounded by Marston Road, a disused railway line, the Northumbrian Water's waste water treatment site, the River Tees, the Tees Barrage White Water Course, the grounds of The Talpore pub and a Tees Barrage access road.
Adelaide Local Nature Reserve is in North West London, in the area of Chalk Farm, Primrose Hill, Belsize Park and Swiss Cottage.
