Tunnel of Friendship, or Tunnel of Silaturahmi (Terowongan Silaturahmi) is an underground tunnel connecting the interior of Istiqlal Mosque and St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Jakarta, Indonesia.The tunnel was constructed as part of the plan to renovate the mosque, and the construction was started on 15 December 2020. It took around 10 months to be finished and was finished in September 2021. [1]
The tunnel has length of 28.3 meters, height of 3 meters, and width of 4.1 meters. The tunnel's interior is shaped based on handshake gesture. Other than symbolizing religious tolerance, the tunnel was intended to relieve two worship places from parking problem during religious holidays and events, as it make attendance of both mosque and cathedral can use each other's parking area. [2] [3] Total area of the tunnel is 226 square meter including shelter, and was built with budget of Rp 37.3 billions by Indonesian government. [4]
The tunnel construction was rejected by several Islamic conservative figures, as well as politicians and public figure. Vice chief of Indonesian Ulema Council Tengku Zulkarnain called the project "waste of money" and that government has better things to spend on. Ferdinand Hutahean, politician from Democratic Party called the project as gimmick and will not solve problem of religious intolerance in Indonesia. [5] Chief of Nahdlatul Ulama, Said Aqil Siradj commented on the project saying that it is devoid of religious, cultural, political, or social meaning and deemed not important. [6] General secretary of Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mut'i criticized the tunnel, stating to build tolerance is not using physical infrastructure but social one. [7] Academicians, moderate religious figures, and activists said that the tunnel will not have any effect nor solve rising religious intolerance in Indonesia, while Islamist figures and ulemas condemned the construction as promoting religious pluralism which they reject. Muhammad Amien Rais is an Indonesian politician. He was one of the leaders of the reform movement that forced the resignation of President Suharto in 1998. Amien Rais was the leader of Muhammadiyah, one of the two biggest Muslim organizations in Indonesia, from 1995 to 2000. Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the sixth largest mosque in the world in terms of worshipper capacity. Built to commemorate Indonesian independence, this national mosque of Indonesia was named "Istiqlal", an Arabic word for "independence". The mosque was opened to the public on 22 February 1978. Jakarta International Stadium is a retractable roof football stadium in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Indonesia. It is the home ground for Persija Jakarta after moving from their current stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, and the occasional home of the Indonesia national football team, after an agreement between PSSI and PT JAKPRO to use the facility. The stadium will be able to host 82,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Indonesia. Construction of the stadium was delayed due to land dispute and class action lawsuit by former squatters whose homes were demolished to make way for the stadium. Construction finally commenced in late 2019 and scheduled to be completed by February 2022. The stadium is planned to have its grand opening in March 2022.

The Indonesia omnibus law protests were a series of demonstrations and civil disorder against Indonesia's Omnibus Law on Job Creation which was passed on 5 October 2020 as well as President Joko Widodo. Demonstrations had begun on 13 January 2020 while the then-bill, claimed by the government as vital to boosting the country's manufacturing industry and foreign investment, was still being drafted. The Decree on Islamic Defenders Front or Joint Decree 220-4780 2020, M.HH-14.HH.05.05 2020, 690 2020, 264 2020, KB/3/XII/2020, 320 2020 is a decree enacted by six ministries and departments in Indonesia to prohibit any activity related to the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and the use of its related symbols. The decree was enacted on 30 December 2020, and is currently in force. The decree was read by Deputy Minister of Human Rights and Law, Eddy Hiariej. The Indonesian government argues that the Islamic Defenders Front and its members violated the law and accuse its members of links to terrorists, justifying the ban. The decree prohibits any association with Islamic Defender Fronts and justifies the arrest of anyone involved in its activities or carrying any symbols related to it. The ministers of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Law and Human Rights, Communication and Information Technology, the Attorney General, the Chief of the National Police, and the National Counter Terrorism Agency signed the law.
The National Research and Innovation Agency is a cabinet-level government agency formed by the Indonesian government in 2019. Originally a new agency attached to the Ministry of Research and Technology and leading to the formation of the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency, the agency was controversially separated and established as a new non-ministerial government agency directly under the President of Indonesia on 28 April 2021. On 24 August 2021 the agency gained official cabinet level status through enactment of Presidential Decree No. 78/2021.
