Turkish Trousers (foaled 1968) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse bred and raced by California businessman, Howard B. Keck.

Racing career

Ridden by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Shoemaker, two-year-old Turkish Trousers made her debut a winning one on December 30, 1970 at Santa Anita Park. The following year she was the dominant filly of her age group and after winning eight important stakes, was voted the 1971 Eclipse Award for American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. Her wins included the top race for three-year-old fillies at each of the three Southern California tracks, taking the Del Mar Oaks at Del Mar Racetrack, [1] the Hollywood Oaks at Hollywood Park Racetrack, [2] and the Santa Susana Stakes (now the Santa Anita Oaks) at Santa Anita Park. The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame was founded in 1951 in Saratoga Springs, New York, to honor the achievements of American Thoroughbred race horses, jockeys, and trainers. In 1955, the museum moved to its current location on Union Avenue near Saratoga race course, at which time inductions into the hall of fame began. Each spring, following the tabulation of the final votes, the announcement of new inductees is made, usually during Kentucky Derby Week in early May. The actual inductions are held in mid-August during the Saratoga race meeting.

Santa Anita Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Arcadia, California, United States. It offers some of the prominent horse racing events in the United States during the winter and in spring. The track is home to numerous prestigious races including both the Santa Anita Derby and the Santa Anita Handicap as well as hosting the Breeders' Cup in 1986, 1993, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016. In 2011, The Stronach Group became the owner.

In her first start at age four in 1972, Turkish Trousers finished second to Typecast in the Santa Monica Handicap. She returned to form in February 1972 but as the bettors' longshot when she won the Santa Maria Handicap and paid $190.40 for a $2 winning ticket. [4] She then won the Santa Margarita Handicap in March, again defeating Typecast as well as another top-rated filly, Convenience. After that, Turkish Trousers finished off the board in her next starts and was retired at the end of the year.

Typecast was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse noted for her ability to win races at both short and very long distances.

The Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in mid March at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. An invitation race for fillies and mares age four and older, it is contested on dirt over a distance of one and one-eighths miles.

Convenience was a Thoroughbred racing mare. She was sired by Fleet Nasrullah, a son of Nasrullah, and her dam was Moment of Truth. Bred by Caper Hill Farm, Inc. and raced by Glen Hill Farm, she was trained by Willard Proctor.

Breeding record

As a broodmare, Turkish Trousers' offspring met with limited success. From her four foals that raced, her best was probably the 1976 filly Persona, sired by Tom Rolfe, who won four of thirty-two starts and earned US$102,225.

Tom Rolfe (1962–1989) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was the leading colt of his generation in the United States, winning the Preakness Stakes and being voted American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse in 1965.

Stellar Wind is an American Thoroughbred racehorse, known for her Eclipse Award winning three-year-old season, and later for her rivalry with the champion mare Beholder. Bred in Virginia, she raced in Maryland as a juvenile, winning one minor race from two starts. As a three-year-old, racing mainly in California, she improved to become arguably the best filly of her generation. In the spring of 2015, she won the Santa Ysabel Stakes and the Santa Anita Oaks before finishing a troubled fourth in the Kentucky Oaks. On her return to California, she recorded further victories in the Summertime Oaks and the Torrey Pines Stakes, and then ended her season by finishing a strong second in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. She was voted American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of 2015.

More So was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She showed considerable promise when winning her only start as a juvenile in 1977 and then took the Irish 1000 Guineas on her three-year-old debut. She won the Desmond Stakes later that year before being exported to the United States where she won the Palomar Handicap in 1979. Her subsequent North American career was disappointing and she was retired from racing at the end of the 1980 season. She made no impact as a broodmare.

Two Bob (1933–1953) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse.

Blush With Pride was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. A winner of the Kentucky Oaks, Blush With Pride won graded stakes races on both dirt and turf during her racing career. She later went on to become an important broodmare.
