Two Wounded Birds were an English rock and roll band, formed in Margate, Kent, in 2010. The band consisted of Johnny Danger (vocals, guitar), Ally Blackgrove (bass), Joe Stevens (guitar) and James Shand (drums). The band's sound had been compared to The Tornados, [1] The Beach Boys, [2] The Velvet Underground, [3] Link Wray, [4] and Phil Spector. [5] The band had also been compared to The Drums, [6] who discovered Two Wounded Birds in 2010, before taking them on their first European tour.

History

In January 2011, Two Wounded Birds released the EP Keep Dreaming Baby. Three songs from the EP, Night Patrol, My Lonesome and Summer Dream were performed at BBC's Maida Vale Studios as part of a BBC Introducing Session for BBC Radio 1. The EP was followed by two further singles in, All We Wanna Do and Together Forever, which were released by Moshi Moshi Recordings. All We Wanna Do was chosen as Radio 1's Tip of the Week in August 2011.

At Glastonbury 2011, the band played Glastonbury's BBC Introducing Stage.

In 2012 Ally Blackgrove left the band, replaced by Sam Parker.

On 6 November 2012, Two Wounded Birds announced via their Facebook and Twitter page that they had disbanded. [7]

In June 2012, Two Wounded Birds released their self-titled debut album to good critical response. NME [8] gave the album 8/10, while The Fly, [9] Q Magazine and Metro [10] gave the album 4/5. One of the tracks was used in the 2015 film Hitman: Agent 47. [11]

They went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in NME magazine, while Tong was picked via an audition. Bloc Party got their break by giving BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, a copy of their demo "She's Hearing Voices".

Written by band-members Jamie Smith, Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft and then-member Baria Qureshi, "Islands" is a dark and simple indie pop track. It also contains influences from house music and features instrumentation from guitars and synthesizers. Croft and Sim, who provided vocals in the track, sing about themes related to loyalty and love. "Islands" was released on 26 October 2009 as the third single from the album by Young Turks in 7-inch single and digital download formats. In March 2010, the song was re-released as a 12-inch single.

Race Horses were a Welsh band based in Cardiff, Wales and originally from Aberystwyth. Formed in 2005 as Radio Luxembourg, they changed their name in 2009 due to possible legal problems with the radio station of the same name. Initially the majority of their music was in Welsh, but their final album Furniture was entirely in English.

Flamingods are a four-piece alternative rock band from London and Bahrain founded by Kamal Rasool in 2010. The band's other members are Karthik Poduval, Sam Rowe and Charles Prest.
