K. M. Daniel was an Indian literary critic and scholar from Kerala, India. He was born in Chengannur. He took his master's degree in Malayalam language from Kerala University in literature and served for forty years as Lecturer and Professor in various colleges. He is the first person from University of Kerala to receive first rank in Malayalam M.A with a second class. He is one of the first few writers in Malayalam who tried to combine eastern and western literary theories in the study of Malayalam works. He is the brother of Mahakavi K.M. Varghese and nephew of Mahakavi K.V. Simon and a relative of Dr K.M. George. He was also a close friend of famous poet Changampuzha Krishnapilla. He received Kerala Sahitya Academy award for his book "Kaladarsanam" and Sahitya Pravarthaka Co-Operative Society award for "Vimarsanam-Sidhanthavum Prayogavum". He got married at the age of 19 to Annamma and the couple had 8 children. His son Pradeep Daniel was a member of the Kerala Ranji Trophy Cricket and the captain of the Kerala Junior cricket team. He died on 18 July 1988 at the age of 68.
