The Afturelding men's handball team, commonly known as Afturelding or UMF Afturelding, is an Iceland team handball club from Mosfellsbær, that plays in the Úrvalsdeild karla. It is part of the Ungmennafélagið Afturelding multi-sport club.

Úrvalsdeild karla, also known as Olís deild karla for sponsorship reasons, is the highest men's handball competition among clubs in Iceland, where play determines the national champion. It is managed by the Icelandic Handball Association. Started in 1939, the Úrvalsdeild karla is the third-oldest national indoor handball championship in the world, after the Danish and Swedish championships which were started in 1935 and 1931 respectively. They play their home matches at KA-heimilið. 1. deild kvenna, also known as Lengjudeild kvenna for sponsorship reasons, is the second-tier women's football league in Iceland. The league was founded in 1982. As of 9 September 2023, Víkingur Reykjavík are the league's champions. The league features 10 teams; the top two finishers qualify for promotion to the Besta deild kvenna, while the bottom two are relegated to 2. deild kvenna. The Selfoss men's football team, commonly known as Selfoss or UMF Selfoss, is the men's football department of the Ungmennafélag Selfoss multi-sport club. It is based in Selfoss, Iceland. The team plays at JÁVERK-völlurinn and traditionally play in a maroon strip.

The 2019 1. deild karla was the 65th season of second-tier Icelandic football. Twelve teams contested the league. The season began on 4 May and concluded on 21 September.

Gintaras Savukynas is a professional Lithuanian handball player, who played in center back position. Savukynas played in the World and European championships with the Lithuania National Handball team as the team captain. In 2005, he officially announced the end of his career as a player, to which he became an assistant coach for the Lithuania men's national handball team, before becoming the head of the national handball team for five years.
