The Gurjar are an agricultural ethnic community, residing mainly in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, divided internally into various clan groups. They were traditionally involved in agriculture, pastoral and nomadic activities and formed a large heterogeneous group. The historical role of Gurjars has been quite diverse in society: at one end they have been founders of several kingdoms and dynasties and, at the other end, some are still nomads with no land of their own.

The Gurjar agitation in Rajasthan were a series of protests in Rajasthan state, India, during 2008, and in later years. Violence erupted in the state of Rajasthan on 23 May 2008 when police fired on protesters belonging to the Gurjar caste who were demanding a Special status under India's reservation system. In retaliation, the protesters lynched a policeman in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. In response, police shot at protesters as they tried to damage railway lines and government property. At least 15 were killed on the spot.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kirori Singh Bainsla</span> Indian Army officer (1940–2022)

Kirori Singh Bainsla was a lieutenant colonel of the Indian Army and in 2007 led a caste-based protest movement in the state of Rajasthan, demanding reservation as Scheduled Tribe for the Gurjar community in Rajasthan. He headed the Rajasthan Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti which led the wave of protests across the state. Col Bainsla is known for his trademark red pagri (turban) and white dhoti and kurta. He is popularly known as पटरीवाले बाबा. A month prior to his demise the gurjar community in bainsla's presence passed on his red pagri to his son Vijay Bainsla to steer the community forward.

Panchana Dam is a freshwater man-made wetland located in Gudla village, Karauli district, Rajasthan, approximately 100 km southeast of Bharatpur. Positioned upstream of the Gambhir River at Krauli, water from this river is crucial for reaching Keoladeo National Park by September. Failure to release water could impact migratory bird visits to the park. The dam stores water from five rivers, supplying Krauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Bharatpur.
