Udanpaal is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by Karthik Seenivasan and starring Linga, Gayathrie and Vivek Prasanna in the lead roles. It was released on 30 December 2022 in Aha Tamil.
Despite their poor financial situation, Parama and his sister Kanmani fiercely reject to suggest their father, Vinayakam, to sell their house. Later, unfortunately, Vinayakam passes away in an unexpected catastrophe, even in that distraught situation family members of Vinayakam become greedy regarding the benefits the government is going to offer to the victim's family. However, fate takes a new turn, making the situation simultaneously tragic and humorous.
The ensemble cast shot the entire film in one schedule in the same location. [1] In early December 2022, the makers of the film announced that they had decided to skip its theatrical release and release it on the aha Tamil platform. [2]
The film was released on 30 December 2022 on the aha Tamil platform, with reviews from critics being released during the week prior to release. A reviewer from Times of India wrote "it's not often you get to watch a quirky, innovative family drama - and, especially when the film manages to double as a dark comedy, you can't help but buy it". The critic added that "Udanpaal, directed by debutant Karthik Sreenivasan, is a product of effective writing that tells you how to engage the audience with a small number of characters and their morbid actions". [3] Critic Manigandan K. R. wrote "director Karthik Seenivasan’s Udanpaal is an exceptionally well made dark comedy drama that, while making us laugh, also makes us ponder about the deteriorating standards of individuals when it comes to morality, gratitude and love". Vivekanandan, known professionally as Vivek, was an Indian actor, comedian, television personality, playback singer and social activist who worked in the Tamil film industry. Introduced in films by director K. Balachander, he won three Filmfare Awards for Best Comedian in Tamil for his performances in the films, Run (2002), Saamy (2003) and Perazhagan (2004) and six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, where five are Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Comedian for the films, Unnaruge Naan Irundhal (1999), Run (2002), Parthiban Kanavu (2003), Anniyan (2005) and Sivaji (2007) and Kalaivanar Award as Honorary Award. His comedy style consisted of one-liners and wordplay that featured social and political satire, which led to critics comparing him to N. S. Krishnan and earning him the nickname Chinna Kalaivanar.
Prasanna Venkatesan, often credited mononymously as Prasanna, is an Indian actor who works predominantly in the Tamil film industry and alongside appeared in a few Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.
Perazhagan is a 2004 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Sasi Shanker and produced by AVM Productions, starring Suriya and Jyothika, each in dual roles. The supporting cast includes Vivek, Manorama and Manobala. The film, which is a remake of the 2002 Malayalam film Kunjikoonan, released on 7 May 2004.
