Ulf Elfving (born 27 November 1942 in Stockholm) is a Swedish journalist and broadcaster. [1]

Elfving started his career in the 1960s. He was programme manager of the Swedish charts between 1966 and 1973 and Record Mirror in the 1970s. He hosted the Melodifestivalen in 1977, 1978 and 1979 and provided the Swedish commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest on eight occasions between 1977 until 1983 and again in 1986.

Until the late 1990s Elfving was a radio show host on Sveriges Radio P4. [2]

He was awarded the Swedish Grand Journalism Prize in 1989, [1] and the Swedish Radio Academy (Radioakademin) Grand Prize in 2002. [3]

Svensktoppen is a weekly record chart airing at Sveriges Radio. Until January 2003, the songs had to be in the Swedish language. Svensktoppen has aired since 1962, except for the years 1982-1985. The last years before the January 2003 change, the programme was strongly dominated by dansband music.

Sweden selected their entry for ESC 1977 in the show "Melodifestivalen 1977". The winner was the song "Beatles" by a group called Forbes. It was a tribute to the rock band The Beatles, who had split up some years earlier, and was written by Sven-Olof Bagge and Claes Bure.

For the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, Sweden held a national final called Melodifestivalen 1978. The winner and representative was "Det blir alltid värre framåt natten", sung by Björn Skifs, and written and composed by Peter Himmelstrand.

Sweden selected their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 in a show called Melodifestivalen 1979. The winner was the popular pop singer Ted Gärdestad with the song "Satellit", which he composed, while the lyrics were by his brother, Kenneth Gärdestad.
