Mahasweta Devi was an Indian writer in Bengali and an activist. Her notable literary works include Hajar Churashir Maa, Rudali, and Aranyer Adhikar. She was a leftist who worked for the rights and empowerment of the tribal people of West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states of India. She was honoured with various literary awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Award, Jnanpith Award and Ramon Magsaysay Award along with India's civilian awards Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan.

Paran Jai Jaliya Re is a 2009 Bengali romance film directed by Ravi Kinnagi. This film stars Dev and Subhashree Ganguly. It is a remake of 2007 Hindi film Namastey London. The director of the original Vipul Shah filed a case against the producers of Paran Jai Jaliya Re and they gave a penalty of Rs. 75 lakh. Bojhena Shey Bojhena is a 2012 Indian Bengali romantic drama film by Raj Chakraborty and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. The film illustrates two love stories – with Soham Chakraborty & Mimi Chakraborty playing the characters in one of the stories and Abir Chatterjee & Payel Sarkar playing the other – which join in the climax. The film was initially titled Prem Amar 2 but eventually the director changed the name because of the entry of two new characters and a different storyline. The film's music is by debutante Arindam Chatterjee. The film's theatrical trailer was unveiled on the film's official YouTube channel on 8 December 2012. This film is a remake of Tamil film named Engaeyum Eppothum released in 2011.
Rupe Tomae Bholabo Na is Bengali film released on 22 February 2013. The film is directed by Raj Mukherjee and it revolves around a star actress and her daughter reflecting their psycho conflict. The film features an ensemble cast including Anannya Sarkar as Ritu, Swastika Mukheree as Kaberi and Shaan as Sunny. It also stars Kaushik Sen as Indrajeet, and Soumitra Chatterjee.

Chotushkone is an Indian Bengali thriller film directed by Srijit Mukherji, starring Aparna Sen, Goutam Ghose, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Parambrata Chatterjee and Payel Sarkar. The film received positive reviews from critics. Srijit Mukherji won the National Film Award for Best Direction at India's 62nd National Film Awards. The film was a both critically and commercially successful. At the time of 2014, when Bengali films is on ventilation, films like Bachchan and Game also were hits, but Chotushkone was ran for 50 days in major cities of Kolkata. The film was blockbuster at the box-office.
Open Tee Bioscope is a 2015 Bengali language Indian coming-of-age comedy-drama film released on 15 January 2015, directed by director Anindya Chatterjee, who is the well known vocalist of the band Chandrabindu. The film is a coming of age story of an adolescent boy and his friends.
Mahananda is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language biographical film directed by Arindam Sil. The film is produced by Firdausul Hasan and Probal Halder under the banner of Friends Communication. The film is based on the life and works of the eminent writer and socio-political activist Mahasweta Devi. The titular role is essayed by Gargi Roychowdhury.
