Umunede is a community of the Ika speaking people of Delta State, Nigeria. It is the largest town in Ika North East with over 50,000 people. On the eastern part of the town, it neighbors Akumazi and Ekwuoma, while Agbor and Emuhu are its neighbors on the west. On the north is Mbiri, Igbodo on the north-east, Otolokpo and Owa on the south. [1] The king of Umunede is His Royal Highness, Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenwali 1, FMNR (JP), Agadagidi, the Obi of Umunede kingdom. [2]

Delta State is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Named after the Niger Delta—a large part of which is in the state—the state was formed from the former Bendel State, on 27 August 1991. Bordered on the north by Edo State, the east by Anambra and Rivers states, and that south by Bayelsa State while to the west is the Bight of Benin which covers about 160 kilometres of the state's coastline. Nigeria has 774 local government areas (LGAs), each administered by a local government council consisting of a chairman, who is the chief executive, and other elected members, who are referred to as councillors. Each LGA is further subdivided into a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty wards. A ward is administered by a councillor, who reports directly to the LGA chairman. The Anioma people are Igbo and Minority of Igala People-groups predominantly indigenous to present day Delta State, Nigeria, along with communities in Edo State. The Anioma people encompass and are native to the nine northeastern Local Government Areas of Delta State and the Ika-Igbo communities of Edo State. Politically, the Anioma occupy the Delta North Senatorial District where they are the majority group.

The Ika language is an Igbo dialect, classified under Nuclear Igboid in the Yeai language family.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku is a diocese located in the city of Issele-Uku, Delta State in the ecclesiastical province of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. It lies on the west bank of the Niger River between Benin City to the west and Onitsha to the east. The diocese comprises six local government areas in the northern portion of Delta State. The Archdiocese of Onitsha borders it on the east and the Archdiocese of Benin City borders it on the west. The Diocese of Uromi is to its north and the Diocese of Warri borders it on the south.

The Ika people are found primarily in Delta State Nigeria & Edo State, they belong to the Ika Ethnic Group. The Ika people have two(2) Local Governments in Delta State, and are also indigenous to Igbanke, Ekpon and other communities of Orhionmwon, Uhunmwonde and Igueben Local Government Areas in Edo State. They speak Ika Language, a language with dialects such as; Agbor, Awu(spoken in Abavo), Owa, Ede, Ute, Idumesah, Owerre, Ekpon, Mbiri, Igbanke. Ika Language was classified by linguists under the Igboid cluster of languages. The standard form of Ika Language is said to be the Agbor and Ekpon dialects of the language.
