Una Navidad con Gilberto (A Christmas with Gilberto), is the title of a Christmas album released by Puerto-Rican singer Gilberto Santa Rosa on October 14, 2008, by Sony BMG Norte. It was the first time that Gilberto released his own Christmas album. He previous collaborated with various artists on the Tarjeta de Navidad by Sony Discos. [1] In addition, he collaborated with Puerto Rican salsa group El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico on their album, Asi es Nuestra Navidad. [1] The album peaked at number-six in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and number twenty-two on the Billboard Holiday Albums chart. [2] It remained on the Top Latin Album charts for thirteen weeks. The album reached number-one on the Tropical Albums where it spent three weeks on the spot. [3] At the Latin Grammy Awards of 2009, the album received a Latin Grammy Award for "Best Traditional Tropical Album". [4]

The backup vocals includes Henry Santiago, Michelle Sotomayor, the producer Charlie Donato, Jerry Rivas of El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and Gilberto's protégé Víctor Manuelle. [5] The latter composed the last track for the album, "La Navidad Más Larga". Dominican Republic singer appears as a guest on the medley, "Cascabel y Candela". [5]

Two songs from the album were released as singles. The first single, "Me Gustan Las Navidades" ("I Enjoy the Holidays"), reached number-nine on the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart. [6] The second single, "La Fiesta No Es Para Feos" ("The Party Is Not For Ugly People"), reached number-seven on the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart. [6]

A parranda is a Puerto Rican music tradition that takes place in Puerto Rico during the Christmas holiday season. Parrandas are social events that feature traditional Puerto Rican music, food, and drinks. The traditional events have been likened to Christmas caroling, but the contents of the songs are secular rather than religious. They are sometimes carried out in the evening, but most traditionally occur in the night, even into the wee hours of the morning. The songs sung are almost exclusively aguinaldos. In this tradition, people go to their friends' or relatives' homes "singing songs, eating pasteles and arroz con dulce, sipping coquito and picking up people along the way" who then join in to proceed to the next home.

Tropical Albums is a record chart published by Billboard magazine. Established in June 1985, the chart compiles information about the top-selling albums in genres like salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, and vallenato, which are frequently considered tropical music. The chart features only full-length albums and, like all Billboard album charts, is based on sales. The information is compiled by Nielsen SoundScan from a sample representing more than 90% of the U.S. music retail market, including not only music stores and music departments at electronics and department stores but also direct-to-consumer transactions and Internet sales. A limited number of verifiable sales at concert venues is also tabulated. Innovations by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico was the first album to reach number-one in the chart on June 29, 1985. Up until May 21, 2005, reggaeton albums appeared on the chart. After the installation of the Latin Rhythm Albums chart, reggaeton titles could no longer appear on the Tropical Albums chart. By removing reggaeton albums from the Tropical Albums chart, it opened slots for re-entries and debuts. "Amnesia" is a ballad written by Chico Novarro and co-written by Dino Ramos, produced by Óscar López and co-produced by Daniel Freiberg and performed by Mexican singer José José. The song was originally recorded by Argentinean singer-songwriter Chico Novarro in his album Que Salga El Autor, released in 1976, and by Puerto Rican-American singer-songwriter and actress Yolandita Monge in her album En Su Intimidad, released in 1978.
