From 2008 on it has been home to the Zorros de Reynosa football club that currently plays in the Segunda División de México. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people. It was named after Adolfo López Mateos who served as President of Mexico from 1958 to 1964.

The Atlético Reynosa Fútbol Club, is a Mexican football club based in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The club was founded on 2012 as Reynosa Fútbol Club, in 2017 was rebranded. Between 2012 and 2020 the team played at Serie A of Liga Premier. From 2020, the team went into hiatus due to financial difficulties and stopped participating in Mexican football indefinitely, but without being dissolved. In 2022 the team's license was sold to C.D.S. Tampico Madero, so any possibility of the return of Atlético Reynosa was eliminated.
Galdino or Galindo Mellado Cruz, commonly referred to by his alias El Mellado and/or Z-9, was a Mexican suspected drug lord and one of the founders of Los Zetas, a criminal organization originally formed by ex-commandos from the Mexican Armed Forces. He joined the Mexican Army in 1992 and was part of the Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales (GAFE), an elite special forces unit of the Army. In 1999, he withdrew from the military and was recruited by the Gulf Cartel, a drug trafficking organization, shortly thereafter.

In the 2020–21 season, Serie B was on hiatus due to COVID-19, but Serie B was reactivated for the 2021–22 season.
Alebrijes de Oaxaca UABJO, also and officially named Alebrijes de Oaxaca Fútbol Club Premier, was a Mexican football team based in the city of Oaxaca, state of Oaxaca. They played in the third tier of Mexican football league, Serie B de México. The team was the second squad of the club Alebrijes de Oaxaca and was founded on 2013, dissolved on 2015 and resumed on July 30, 2021. The team was dissolved again on June 15, 2023 to give way to C.F. Orgullo Reynosa.
