North West Sydney Spirit FC is an Australian soccer club. It was the successor of the defunct Northern Spirit FC, a professional soccer club based in North Sydney, Sydney, New South Wales. Northern Spirit entered the National Soccer League in the 1998–99 season. Its founding was inspired in part by the success Perth Glory was enjoying as a mainstream club, as well as an opportunity to tap into the previously unrepresented northern suburbs of Sydney.

The Federation's roots were go back to the formation of the Northern District British Football Association on 26 June 1887. To fall in line with the global football identity, the federation was re-branded to Northern NSW Football on 25 October 2006.

The preliminary rounds operated within a consistent national structure whereby club entry into the competition was staggered in each state/territory, with the winning clubs from Round 7 of the preliminary rounds in each member federation gaining entry into the Round of 32. All Australian clubs were eligible to enter the qualifying process through their respective FFA member federation, however only one team per club was permitted entry in the competition.
Darwin Rovers FC were a football (soccer) club based in Darwin, Northern Territory. They competed in the NorZone Premier League. The Rovers played their games at Darwin Football Stadium in the suburb of Marrara. In 2018 they merged with Palmerston FC to form Palmerston Rovers FC.

The competition is conducted by Football West, the organising body in Western Australia. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues Women's structure, which sits below the national A-League Women, it is the highest tier of local women's competition in Western Australia. The league was founded in 2020 in Western Australia, several years behind equivalent leagues in other states.
