The Nigeria Cricket Association has been an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2002.
A Twenty20 International (T20I) is a form of cricket, played between international members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), where each team faces a maximum of twenty overs. These matches hold top-class status and are the highest T20 standard. The game is played under the rules of Twenty20 cricket. Starting from the format's inception in 2005, T20I status only applied to Full Members and some Associate Member teams. However, in April 2018, the ICC announced that it would grant T20I status to all its 105 members from 1 January 2019.

The 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier was a cricket tournament that was played as part of the qualification process for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It took place in November 2021 in Antigua, with the top two teams progressing to one of two global qualifiers. In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full international status to Twenty20 men's matches played between member sides from 1 January 2019 onwards. Therefore, all the matches in the Regional Qualifiers were played as Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The 2021–22 Uganda Tri-Nation Series, also known as the Pearl of Africa T20I Series, was a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament that was held in Uganda in September 2021. The participating teams were the hosts Uganda, along with Kenya and Nigeria. The tournament was originally planned to consist of 13 T20I matches, with the sides facing each other four times in a round-robin stage, followed by a final between the top two teams. The round-robin was later reduced by three matches with each team facing each other three times. The tournament provided preparation for all sides ahead of T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier events took place in October and November 2021.

The venue for all of the matches was the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos. Along with the hosts Nigeria, the tournament featured the national teams of Gambia, Ghana, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. Cameroon were also originally scheduled to take part.

The 2023 Nigeria Invitational Women's T20I Tournament was a women's Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament that took place in Nigeria from 27 March to 2 April 2023. The venue for all of the matches was the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos. This was the second edition of the tournament with WT20I status, with Rwanda returning to defend the title. In the 2022 tournament, Rwanda defeated the hosts Nigeria in the final.
