The West Midlands is a ceremonial county, metropolitan county and combined authority area in west-central England with a 2019 estimated population of 2,928,592. This makes it the second most populous county in England after Greater London. It was created in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 to cover parts of Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The county is a NUTS 2 region within a wider NUTS 1 region of the same name. It covers seven metropolitan boroughs: Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull and Walsall.
The University of Warwick is a public research university on the outskirts of Coventry between the West Midlands and Warwickshire, England. The University was founded in 1965 as part of a government initiative to expand higher education. The Warwick Business School was established in 1967, the Warwick Law School in 1968, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) in 1980, and Warwick Medical School in 2000. Warwick incorporated Coventry College of Education in 1979 and Horticulture Research International in 2004.

The Southern Education and Research Alliance (SERA), founded in 1999, is a strategic alliance formed between the University of Pretoria and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The alliance collaborates locally and internationally with universities, NGO’s, companies and multinational bodies in various research areas. WMG is an academic department at the University of Warwick, England, providing research, education and knowledge transfer in engineering, management, manufacturing and technology. The group provides taught and research degrees for postgraduate students, degree apprenticeships, and undergraduate courses at the University of Warwick campus. WMG is one of the largest academic departments of the university and is known for its collaborative research and education programmes with industry.
Solihull is a large historic market town and administrative centre in England with a population of 123,187 in the 2011 Census. Historically in Warwickshire, Solihull is situated on the River Blythe in the Forest of Arden area, south of the centre of England. Via the UK road network, the town is 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Birmingham, 13 miles (21 km) west of Coventry, 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Warwick, 32 miles (51 km) northeast of Worcester, and 110 miles (180 km) northwest of London. It is the largest town in, and administrative centre of, the larger Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, which itself has a population of 214,909. Solihull is the most affluent town in the West Midlands region, and one of the most affluent areas in the UK outside of London. In November 2013, the uSwitch Quality of Life Index named Solihull the "best place to live" in the United Kingdom.
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College - North Warwickshire and Hinckley Campus, previously North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, is a Further Education College with main campuses in Nuneaton, Hinckley, Harrowbrook and Wigston. The college offers apprenticeships, full-time, part-time further and higher education courses.
The Surrey Research Park is a large research park in Guildford, Surrey. The Surrey Research Park has been planned, developed, funded and managed by the University of Surrey which operates the park as a wholly owned University Enterprise Unit.
Birmingham Science Park Aston, formerly known as Aston Science Park, is a science park located in Birmingham City Centre, United Kingdom. It is located adjacent to Aston University and the Eastside area.
Scouting in West Midlands provides an overview of Scouting activities in the governmental region of the West Midlands. The largest number of Scouts and volunteer leaders in the region is linked to the Scout Association of the United Kingdom, while there is also a presence of traditional Scouting groups, such as the Baden-Powell Scouts' Association. The Scout Association administers the region through 8 Scout Counties, overseen by a regional commissioner, which follow the boundaries of the ceremonial counties they exist within. There are also a number of Scouting clubs within Universities in the region which are affiliated to the Student Scout and Guide Organisation.

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center (LBTC) at Louisiana State University plays an important role to the state's flagship university, Louisiana State University as a part of LSU's Office of Research and Economic Development. LBTC's primary goal is to increase the economic growth of Louisiana by enhancing the development of small businesses and assisting in the development of new businesses. The center is ranked among the top ten entrepreneur programs in the nation. In 1988 it was jointly funded through LSU and the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce to foster economic growth in Louisiana by providing businesses with applications and tools necessary for growth and survival in the real world. It comprises the Louisiana Technology Transfer Office (LTTO), the LBTC Business Incubator, and the LSU Student Incubator.
The High Value Manufacturing Catapult is a group of manufacturing research centres in the United Kingdom, which forms part of the Catapult centres initiative.
