The 27th Utah Senate District is located in Carbon, Emery, Grand, San Juan and Utah Counties and includes Utah House Districts 55, 65, 66, 67, 69 and 70. The current State Senator representing the 27th district is Mike Dmitrich. Dmitrich was appointed to the Utah Senate in 1992 and was subsequently elected to the Utah Senate in 1992 and is up for re-election in 2008.

Mike Dmitrich is an American politician and Natural Resource Consultant from Utah. A Democrat, he served as a member of the Utah State Senate, representing the state's 27th senate district in Price. Dmitrich served as the Minority Leader in the Utah Senate. Prior to being elected to the Utah Senate Dmitrich served in the State House from 1969 to 1992. He retired prior to the 2008 elections and was replaced by David P. Hinkins.

The 2010 United States Senate election in Utah took place on November 2, 2010 along with other midterm elections throughout the United States. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Bob Bennett was seeking re-election to a fourth term, but lost renomination at the Republican party's state convention. Mike Lee proceeded to win the Republican primary against Tim Bridgewater and the general election against Democrat Sam Granato. As of 2021, this is the most recent U.S. Senate election where a political party denied renomination to an incumbent Senator and won.
