Personal life

V. J. Kurian was born to V. J. Joseph, Vattavayalil House and Aleykutty Joseph, Pamblani House at Edamattom, Pala, Kerala in Kottayam District. He is married to Mariamma Kurian and has one son and one daughter. V. Joseph Thomas IPS is his elder brother. He lives in Cochin and serves as the Managing Director of the Cochin International Airport. [1]

Under his leadership, the airport won the distinction of being the world's first solar powered airport. [2] [3] [4]

He has a master's degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. [5]

Career

Kurian joined the Kerala cadre of the Indian Administrative Service in 1983 and has held various positions in the bureaucracy. He has been the Managing Director (MD) of Oushadhi, a state-run pharmaceutical company, Spices Board Chairman and MD of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation. [6] [7] He has had three terms as the MD of Cochin International Airport [1] and was awarded the M. K. K. Nair Award [8] in 2017. [9]

He was a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Cochin International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Kochi, Kerala, in southwestern India. It is located at Nedumbassery, about 25 km (16 mi) northeast of the city center. The airport is the first of its kind to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model in India. This project was funded by nearly 10,000 non-resident Indians from 32 countries. It is the busiest and largest airport in the state of Kerala and the fourth biggest airport in South India. As of 2019, the airport caters to 61.8% of the total air passenger traffic in Kerala. It is the third busiest airport in India in terms of international traffic, and the eighth busiest overall.

The CIAL Solar Power Project is a 40 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power station built at Cochin International Airport, India, by the company Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL). Cochin International Airport became the first fully solar powered airport in the world with the commissioning the plant.

Meppally Keshava Pillai Krishnankutty Nair, commonly identified as M. K. K. Nair, was an Indian bureaucrat, art connoisseur and Indian Administrative Service officer from Kerala. Besides his services in the setting up of Bhilai Steel Plant and in the development of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore, Nair was known for his contributions in promoting fine arts and performing arts such as Kathakali, in the state of Kerala.
