V. Ramasubramanian (born 30 June 1958) is the incumbent chairperson of National Human Rights Commission of India and a former judge of Supreme Court of India. He is former chief justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. He is also former judge of Madras High Court and Telangana High Court. [2] [3] Ramasubramanian retired from the supreme court on 29 June 2023. [4]
Over the course of his Supreme Court tenure,Ramasubramanian wrote 102 judgments. [5] Ramasubramanian was a member of benches that heard arguments concerning the 2016 Demonetization policy and the validity of circumstantial evidence in bribery cases. [6]
He was appointed as the 9th chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India. [7]

National Human Rights Commission of India is a statutory body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993. It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act,1993 (PHRA). The NHRC is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights,which is defined by the act as "rights relating to life,liberty,equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenants and enforceable by courts in India".
