The V. Shantaram Award is the highest award in Marathi cinema, established by the Government of Maharashtra, India. It is presented annually by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra. Award instituted in 1994 to recognises individual for their "Lifetime Achievement to Marathi Cinema".

The Government of Maharashtra created the award to commemorate the contribution of Indian filmmaker V. Shantaram.

The Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Playback Singer Female is an honour established in 1962, and presented at the Maharashtra State Film Awards for best female playback singer in Marathi cinema. The first recipient of the award was Asha Bhosle with 18 wins.

Dattatray Ambadas Mayalu (1932), known as Rajdutt, is an Indian director and producer in the Marathi and Hindi film industries. He directed his first film Madhuchandra in 1967. He is a recipient of three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Award Marathi, twelve Maharashtra State Film Awards, V. Shantaram Award and Zee Gaurav Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution in Marathi cinema. In 2024, the Government of India, honoured him with Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour for his contributions to Indian culture through performing arts.

The Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Lyrics is an honour established in 1962, and presented at the Maharashtra State Film Awards for best lyrics in Marathi cinema. The first recipient of the award was G. D. Madgulkar.
