VIVO Cannabis Inc(formerly ABcann Global) [1] is a Canadian licensed cannabis producer, headquartered in Napanee, Ontario. Prior to being acquired by MediPharm Labs Corp., VIVO traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange as VIVO.

History

VIVO received two of the first 15 licences by Health Canada in 2014. [2] It became a publicly traded company in April 2017 on the TSX Venture Exchange. In August 2017, the company received a $15 million investment by Cannabis Wheaton to fund the second production facility at its 65-acre property in Napanee. [3] Effective January 24, 2020, the company's stocks were moved from the TSX Venture Exchange to the Toronto Stock Exchange. [4] [5] In April 2023, VIVO merged with TSX-listed MediPharm Labs Corp. (TSX :  LABS) in an all-stock deal that resulted in VIVO becoming a subsidiary of MediPharm. [6]

Operations

The company has three cannabis brands: Beacon Medical, Fireside and Lumina. [7] The products are grown using seeds from the Netherlands, and a computerized process where each plant is controlled and monitored. [8] The company has a comprehensive research partnership with the University of Guelph to enhance cannabis production and uses. [9]

In February 2018, VIVO acquired Harvest Medicine Inc, a medical cannabis clinic with 9,700 patients. [10] In August 2018, they acquired Canna Farms, a licensed producer located in Hope, British Columbia. [11]

VIVO works with the Ontario Cannabis Store [12] and the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission [13] as a supplier of recreational marijuana to Ontario and Alberta. Canna Farms, a VIVO subsidiary, is a supplier of recreational marijuana to British Columbia through the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch. [14] [15]

CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. is a Canadian public licensed producer of medical cannabis. It is primarily focused on cannabis oil. The company's predecessor, Prairie Plant Systems, was established in 1988 and is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Cannabis in Alberta became legalized on October 17, 2018 following the coming into force of federal Bill C-45. Production, distribution and consumption of cannabis had been prohibited in Canada since 1923. While some other provinces distribute cannabis through publicly owned retail monopolies, Alberta allows private companies to sell cannabis at licensed retail storefronts and online. Private retailers must purchase cannabis from the provincial wholesaler, the AGLC. Originally, the Alberta government was the sole entity permitted to retail cannabis online within the province but as of March 8, 2022, private retailers are permitted to do so and the province has since exited the retail business.

On October 17, 2018, cannabis was legalized in Canada for recreational and medical purposes. It was already legal for medicinal purposes, under conditions outlined in the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations issued by Health Canada, and for seed, grain, and fibre production under licence by Health Canada.

Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 additional countries outside of Canada. Aphria offers multiple products under a portfolio of recreational cannabis brands, including Good Supply, B!NGO, Solei, RIFF, and Broken Coast. In November 2020, Aphria acquired SweetWater Brewing Company, one of the largest craft breweries in the USA.

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is a Canadian licensed cannabis producer, headquartered in Edmonton. It trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange and Nasdaq as ACB. As of late September 2018, Aurora Cannabis had eight licensed production facilities, five sales licences, and operations in 25 countries. It had a funded capacity of over 625,000 kilograms of cannabis production per annum with the bulk of capacity based in Canada and a growing presence in international markets, particularly Denmark and Latin America. The company began trading on the NYSE on October 23, 2018, using the ticker ACB.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Guyana Goldfields</span> Canadian mining company

Guyana Goldfields was a Canadian company that owned and operated the Aurora gold mine in Guyana. Before being acquired by Zijin Mining in 2020, Guyana Goldfields was a publicly traded company with shares listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and previously TSX Venture Exchange. Beginning in 1996 the company acquired exploration rights to the former Peters and Aurora mines with the objective of utilizing modern exploration technology to re-evaluate the potential gold reserves. Following positive exploratory results, the company received financing from the International Finance Corporation and other investors and conducted economic and technical feasibility studies. The Aurora gold mine began commercial production in 2015 and has produced approximately 125,000 to 160,000 ounces of gold per year from the mine since then. These lower than expected results and a revised technical study that significantly lowered the recoverable reserves estimates, led to the removal of the CEO and directors involved in making the investment decision and a class action lawsuit alleging misrepresentations in public disclosures.

The company is also the fourth-largest ETF provider in Canada, with more than CAD$24 billion in assets as of April 2023.

Cresco Labs, Inc. is a publicly traded, vertically integrated cannabis and medical marijuana company based in Chicago, Illinois, with current retail operations in nine states where marijuana has been legalized for medical use. The company's stock trades on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker symbol CL, and in over-the-counter markets in the United States with the ticker symbol CRLBF.
