VMworld is a global multi-cloud conference, hosted by VMware. It is the largest multi-cloud-specific event. It has been held in San Diego, California in 2004; Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2017, and 2018; Los Angeles, California in 2006; and San Francisco, California in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2019. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it converted to a fully digital event in 2020.

Contents

The conference was renamed VMware Explore in 2022.

There is also an annual VMworld conference that has been held since 2008 in Europe, usually in October or November following the US conference. The European conference has been held in France, Denmark, and Spain.

The conference normally lasts between three and five days and consists of breakout sessions, panels, exhibit hall, and hands-on labs. The first conference was held in the Fall of 2004 and attracted more than 1,600 attendees and over the years has attracted over 20,000 attendees annually. [1]

Wyse Technology, Inc., or simply Wyse, was an independent American manufacturer of cloud computing systems. As of 2012, Wyse is a subsidiary of Dell. Wyse are best remembered for their video terminal line introduced in the 1980s, which competed with the market-leading Digital. They also had a successful line of IBM PC compatible workstations in the mid-to-late 1980s. But starting late in the decade, Wyse were outcompeted by companies such as eventual parent Dell. Virtual Computing Environment Company (VCE) was a division of EMC Corporation that manufactured converged infrastructure appliances for enterprise environments. Founded in 2009 under the name Acadia, it was originally a joint venture between EMC and Cisco Systems, with additional investments by Intel and EMC subsidiary VMware. EMC acquired a 90% controlling stake in VCE from Cisco in October 2014, giving it majority ownership. VCE ended in 2016 after an internal division realignment, followed by the sale of EMC to Dell.

Lanyon Solutions, Inc. was a privately owned, software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that provided cloud-based software to manage meetings, events and travel. Lanyon's software supported a range of clients including corporations, hotels, associations, tradeshows, convention and visitor bureaus (CVBs), and intermediaries in the meetings, events and travel space. It was merged into Cvent in 2017.

Stratoscale was a software company offering software-defined data center technology, with hyper-converged infrastructure and cloud computing capabilities. Stratoscale combined compute, storage, and networking hardware with no additional third party software. Stratoscale has shut down with no details for the future of its products.
