Vakhtang Pipia is the current Chairman of the State Committee for State Property and Privatisation of Abkhazia in the Government of President Khajimba,and a former Vice Premier.
Pipia was born on 13 October 1960 in Tkvarcheli. From 1978 until 1983,he studied at the economics faculty of the Tbilisi State University. [1]
Between 1983 and 1988,Pipia held various positions in the Tkvarcheli town council and the local branch of the Communist Party. From 1988 until 1990,he attended the higher party school in Baku. In November 1991,he founded the Tkvarcheli branch of the Sukhumi Commercial Bank. During the 1992–1993 with Georgia,he led the rear of the eastern front. In October 1994,he founded the Menatep-Sukhum bank. Between 1997 and 2000,Pipia gained a post-graduate degree from the Russian Presidential Academy of Public Administration. [1]
In the March 2002 election,Pipia was elected to the 3rd convocation of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia. On 19 February 2004,Pipia became one of fifteen (out of 35) founding members of the opposition faction Unity ,led by Daur Tarba. [2]
On 25 February 2005,following the election of President Sergei Bagapsh,Pipia was appointed to his government as Minister for Taxes and Fees,in the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab.
Pipia was re-appointed in the cabinet of Sergei Shamba in 2009,following the re-election of Bagapsh. On 30 March 2011,Pipia was appointed Vice Premier,succeeding Daur Tarba who had resigned. [3] Two months later,Bagapsh died,and in October 2011,Pipia was not re-appointed by Ankvab,who succeeded Bagapsh as President.
On 30 August 2016,Pipia became part of the Government of President Khajimba when he was appointed head of the State Committee for State Property and Privatisation in the cabinet of Prime Minister Beslan Bartsits. [4]
Raul Jumkovich Khajimba is an Abkhazian politician who served as President of Abkhazia from 25 September 2014 until 12 January 2020. He was also Chairman of the Forum for the National Unity of Abkhazia from 2010 to 2015. Khajimba previously held the offices of Vice President (2005–2009),Prime Minister (2003–2004) and Defence Minister (2002–2003). He unsuccessfully ran for president in 2004,2009 and 2011. He resigned the presidency in 2020 due to protests against him.
The prime minister of Abkhazia is the de facto head of government of the partially recognized Republic of Abkhazia,that is de jure part of Georgia.
The office of Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia was created on 17 May 1993,during the 1992–1993 war with Georgia. Empirical data nevertheless show that Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry also enacts diplomatic relations,such as the sending of diplomatic notes,with various countries across the world,including Nauru,Vanuatu,Venezuela,Nicaragua,and Syria. It is also active in managing relations with other post-Soviet de facto states such as South Ossetia,Transnistria,and the Lugansk People's Republic.
Sergei Shamba is a senior politician from Abkhazia. He is currently a member of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia and Chairman of United Abkhazia. He was Prime Minister of Abkhazia under President Sergei Bagapsh from 13 February 2010 until 27 September 2011. Between 1997 and 2010 he had been Minister for Foreign Affairs under both Bagapsh and his predecessor Vladislav Ardzinba,with only a half-year interruption in 2004. Shamba has twice unsuccessfully participated in presidential elections,in 2004 and 2011. He has been a staunch proponent for dialogue between Abkhazia and Georgia.
United Abkhazia is a political party in Abkhazia. United Abkhazia was founded on March 25,2004,as a socio-political movement,with the specific goal of presenting a single opposition candidate for the October 2004 presidential elections.
Presidential elections were held in Abkhazia on 12 January 2005. The result was a victory for Sergei Bagapsh of United Abkhazia,who received over 90% of the vote.
Ochamchira District is a district of the partially recognised Abkhazia. Its capital is Ochamchire,the town by the same name. The district is smaller than the Ochamchire district in the de jure subdivision of Georgia,as some of its former territory is now part of Tkvarcheli District,formed by de facto Abkhaz authorities in 1995. The population of the Ochamchira district is 24,629 according to the 2003 census. Until the August 2008 Battle of the Kodori Valley,some mountainous parts of the district were still under Georgian control,as part of Upper Abkhazia.
Tkvarcheli District is one of the districts of Abkhazia. It has no equivalent Georgian district,as it was newly formed in 1995 from parts of Ochamchira District and Gali District,centered on its eponymous capital,Tkvarcheli. The population of the district was 14,477 at the time of the 2003 census. By the 2011 census,it had increased to 16,012. Of note is Bedia Cathedral located within the district.
Presidential elections were held in Abkhazia on 3 October 2004,the first that were competitive. Election law prohibited incumbent President Vladislav Ardzinba from running for a third term and he instead backed Prime Minister Raul Khadjimba,who also enjoyed support from the Russian authorities. Khadjimba's main opponent was Sergei Bagapsh,who was supported by the two major opposition parties,United Abkhazia and Amtsakhara,and later also by Aitaira when their candidate Alexander Ankvab was barred from running in a controversial decision by the Central Election Commission.
Daur Tarba is the current Minister for Agriculture of Abkhazia. In the past,he has also been Chairman of United Abkhazia at a time when it was the ruling party,Vice Premier and head of the Ochamchira District.
The Government of President Sergei Bagapsh was the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia from 2005 until 2011.
The Government of President Alexander Ankvab was the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia from 2011 until 2014.
The 3rd convocation of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia was in place from 2002 until 2007.
The Abkhazian Revolution took place in 2014,when President Aleksandr Ankvab resigned after hundreds of demonstrators stormed his office. After mass protests in the capital Sukhumi and the occupation of his office on 27 May,Ankvab fled to his hometown of Gudauta and ultimately resigned on 1 June,after previously denouncing the demonstration as an attempted coup d'état.
The Government of President Raul Khajimba was the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia from 2014 until 2020.
Rauf Aslanovich Tsimtsba was the third Minister for Taxes and Fees of Abkhazia,serving between 2011 and 2016 in the Governments of President Bagapsh,President Ankvab and President Khajimba. Tsimtsba was originally appointed on 4 April 2011 by Sergei Bagapsh to succeed Vakhtang Pipia,who had been appointed Vice Premier on 30 March. Before that,Tsimtsba had headed the Department for the Taxation of Legal Entities within the ministry. Following the Death of Bagapsh one month later and the election of Alexander Ankvab,Tsimtsba was re-appointed on 11 October.
Zurab Marshan was Minister for Health of Abkhazia from 25 February 2005 until 15 October 2014,in the Governments of President Bagapsh and President Ankvab. Marshan was first appointed after the election of Sergei Bagapsh in 2005. He was re-appointed on 28 October 2011 by Alexander Ankvab following Bagapsh's death. He was not re-appointed by Raul Khajimba after his election in 2014.

Daur Arshba is an Abkhazian politician. He is the Head of the Presidential Administration,having been appointed by President Raul Khajimba on 10 October 2016,and Chairman of the pro-government Forum for the National Unity of Abkhazia. In the past,he has served as Vice Speaker of the People's Assembly and as Head of Tkvarcheli District. Following the death of Gennadi Gagulia on 8 September 2018,Arshba was appointed Acting Prime Minister of Abkhazia,a position he held until 18 September 2018.
