Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts) is a private post-secondary school located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1995, VanArts offers one-year diploma programs in visual, media and performing arts. Additionally, the school offers degree pathways in collaboration with its university partners.

History

VanArts was founded in 1995 with Lee Mishkin as its founding program director. [2]

VanArts' first campus was on West Broadway in Vancouver, it was then moved downtown to 837 Beatty Street in January 1997. Initially only offering programs for Classical Animation, the school further expanded to also offer programs for Computer Animation in 1998, Game Art Design in 2003, Visual Effects in 2004, then finally Digital Photography in 2006; the first school to do so in North America. [3] In that same year, VanArts moved into a new campus located at 626 West Pender Street. In 2008, the William Davis Centre for Actors Study joined with VanArts, becoming its acting department. In July 2010, VanArts moved again, this time to 570 Dunsmuir Street. In 2011, additional departments were made for Web Development & Interactive Design, Broadcasting, and Online Media. In 2021, the school moved to its current location, a custom made floor at 333 Terminal Avenue.

The Art Institute of Colorado was a for-profit art and culinary school in Denver, Colorado. It briefly operated as a non-profit institution before it closed in 2018. The school was one of a number of Art Institutes, a franchise of for-profit art colleges with many branches in North America, owned and operated by Education Management Corporation. EDMC owned the college from 1975 until 2017, when, facing significant financial problems and declining enrollment, the company sold the Art Institute of Colorado, along with 30 other Art Institute schools, to Dream Center Education, a Los Angeles–based Pentecostal organization. Dream Center permanently closed 18 Art Institute schools, including the Art Institute of Colorado, at the end of 2018.

Gregory S. Butler is an Academy Award-winning American visual effects supervisor. He graduated from Suffield High School in 1989 and afterwards entered Hampshire College. Despite his initial plans to study history, a work-study job with the audiovisual equipment in the library made him interested in film production. Butler graduated in 1993 with a major in film, television and theater design. Afterwards he moved to California to work for Industrial Light and Magic for 9 months, where after intern work he managed to become an assistant in the effects department, starting with assistant credits in The Mask and Forrest Gump. Following a job at Rocket Science Games until the company's bankruptcy in 1996, Butler went to Tippett Studio and did effects work in Starship Troopers and My Favorite Martian, rising up to a technical director job, and Cinesite for Practical Magic. While reluctant at the requirement of moving to New Zealand, Butler was convinced by his writer-actor brother to jump at the opportunity of working for Weta Digital in The Lord of the Rings. Among his achievements was working on the creation of Gollum. for which he was awarded a Visual Effects Society Award.

Lost Boys Studios – School of Visual Effects is a PTIB-accredited private academy for visual effects and artistry, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">David Hulin</span>

David Hulin is a British born Animation Director and VFX Director based in New York, best known for creating iconic animated characters such as the GEICO Gecko, Post Office Ants (UK), Nigel the Xyzal Owl, The Lactaid Cow, as well as creatively leading many other iconic campaigns for Fedex, GE, Pepsi, M&Ms, Speedy. David has gained a great reputation for his significant contribution to the Computer Graphics and Visual Effects industry over the last two decades.

Elle-Máijá Apiniskim Tailfeathers is a Blackfoot and Sámi filmmaker, actor, and producer from the Kainai First Nation in Canada. She has won several accolades for her film work, including multiple Canadian Screen Awards.
