Salvador Sánchez Cerén is a Salvadoran politician who served as the 42nd President of El Salvador between 1 June 2014 and 1 June 2019. He took office on 1 June 2014,after winning the 2014 presidential election as the candidate of the left-wing Farabundo MartíNational Liberation Front (FMLN). He previously served as Vice President under President Mauricio Funes from 2009 to 2014. He was also a guerrilla leader in the Civil War and is the first and only ex-rebel to serve as president.

On June 22,2020,the Hospital El Salvador,a permanent hospital conversion of the convention center in San Salvador,was opened to the public;it is Latin America's largest hospital and was built to receive COVID-19 patients.
Presidential elections were held in El Salvador on 2 February 2014,with a second round held on 9 March since no candidate won an outright majority. The primary candidates were Vice-President Salvador Sánchez Cerén of the FMLN,San Salvador Mayor Norman Quijano of ARENA,and Former President Antonio "Tony" Saca. Saca represented GANA,the National Conciliation Party,and the Christian Democratic Party in the UNIDAD coalition. Incumbent President Mauricio Funes was ineligible to run for a consecutive second term. Sánchez Cerén and Quijano emerged as the contestants in the runoff held on 9 March in which Sánchez Cerén was declared the victor.
Operation Car Wash was a landmark anti-corruption probe in Brazil. Beginning in March 2014 as the investigation of a small car wash in Brasília over money laundering,the proceedings uncovered a massive corruption scheme in the Brazilian federal government,particularly in state-owned enterprises. The probe was conducted through a joint task force of agents in the federal police,revenue collection agency,internal audit office and antitrust regulator. Evidence was collected and presented to the court system by a team of federal prosecutors led by Deltan Dallagnol,while the judge in charge of the operation was Sergio Moro. Eventually,other federal prosecutors and judges would go on to oversee related cases under their jurisdictions in various Brazilian states. The operation implicated leading businessmen,federal congressmen,senators,state governors,federal government ministers,and former presidents Collor,Temer and Lula. Companies and individual accused of involvement have agreed to pay 25 billion reais in fines and restitution of embezzled public funds.

The Truth Commission for El Salvador was a restorative justice truth commission approved by the United Nations to investigate the grave wrongdoings that occurred throughout the country's twelve year civil war. It is estimated that 1.4 percent of the Salvadoran population was killed during the war. The commission operated from July 1992 until March 1993,when its findings were published in the final report,From Madness to Hope. The eight-month period heard from over 2,000 witness testimonies and compiled information from an additional 20,000 witness statements.
Gabriela Roberta Rodríguez de Bukele is a Salvadoran educator,prenatal psychologist and the current First Lady of El Salvador,as the wife of the 43rd President of El Salvador,Nayib Bukele. She is also a professional ballet dancer and is part of the dance company Fundación Ballet de El Salvador.

Ciudad Mujer is a project of the government of El Salvador,created on March 28,2011,as an initiative of the then First Lady Vanda Pignato. It consists of offering aid to victims of violence against women,as well to provide access to women's healthcare services,financial advice,and career training. The six Ciudad Mujer centers,located throughout the country offer services from 15 Salvadoran government agencies in one location. These include job training and financial loans to offer a chance for economic independence. Ciudad Mujer also provides healthcare services,including forensic laboratories and legal aid for victims of sexual assault,reproductive services,neonatal care,and breast cancer prevention. 603,000 women have utilized Ciudad Mujer,as of November 2014.
