Vanjangi is a hill station located near Paderu in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated approximately 3,400 feet above sea level.

Geography and climate

Vanjangi is situated in the Eastern Ghats. The climate of Vanjangi remains cool throughout the year, and the area experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. [2]

Tourist attractions

Vanjangi is known for its sunrises, [3] with visitors often starting their trek early in the morning to see the view.[ citation needed ] The hill station experiences thick fog during the winter months, [4] drawing many tourists. [4] Winter arrives early in Vanjangi, with temperatures dropping to around 16 degrees Celsius. December to January is a popular time for tourists due to the fog and clear views. [5]

The culture of Vanjangi is closely linked to the traditions of the indigenous tribal communities of the Eastern Ghats.[ citation needed ] Local customs include festivals, dances, and handicrafts [2] that reflect the tribes' connection with their environment.[ citation needed ] The local markets and gatherings feature traditional attire, music, and dance. [6]

Transport

Vanjangi is accessible by several modes of transport despite its remote location. The primary way to reach Vanjangi is by road from Paderu. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) operates buses from nearby towns to Paderu.

There is no railway station in Vanjangi itself. The nearest major railway station is in Visakhapatnam, approximately 125 kilometers away. [7]

Alluri Sitarama Raju was an Indian revolutionary who waged an armed rebellion against the British colonial rule in India. Born in present-day Andhra Pradesh, he was involved in opposing the British in response to the 1882 Madras Forest Act that effectively restricted the free movement of adivasis in their forest habitats and prevented them from practicing their traditional form of agriculture called 'podu', which threatened their very way of life. Rise in discontent towards the British colonial rule in the backdrop of the non-cooperation movement (1920–1922) led to the Rampa rebellion (1922–1924) in which Alluri Sitarama Raju played the major role as its leader. Mustering combined forces of tribals and other sympathizers to the cause, he engaged in guerilla campaigns against the British forces across the border regions of present-day Andhra Pradesh and Odisha states in India. He was given the title "Manyam Veerudu" by the local people for his exploits.

No part of Papikonda remains outside East and West Godavari districts after 2014 and the construction of Polavaram Dam.

Matsyarasa Visweswara Raju is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He is a member of YSR Congress Party. He has been elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Paderu Assembly constituency in 2024 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.
