Varials is an American metalcore band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in October 2013. [4] The band currently consists of lead vocalist Mitchell Rogers, guitarist James Hohenwarter, bassist Mike Foley and drummer Sean Rauchut.
The band members, all from Philadelphia or surrounding towns, had been a part of the 2009 music scene in one way or another, realizing this years later after they all met through different means. [5] By 2012, they officially formed Varials. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Jared Pilieri, guitarists James Hohenwarter and Shane Lyons, bassist Mike Foley, and drummer Sean Rauchut. Pilieri was kicked out of the band in 2014, with the band releasing a statement distancing themselves from him, stating "(Pilieri) used his place in this band to manipulate others and we all sincerely apologize to anyone that was affected by his actions" [6] He was replaced by Travis Tabron. Lyons left around 2017 and was replaced by former Capture the Crown guitarist Mitchell Rogers.
Varial's first release was the single "Trapped", released on October 7, 2013. [7] They released an EP, Recollection in 2014. [3] In 2016 they released a split EP, Absolution with Wilmington, Delaware-based band Vicious Embrace. [8] [9] [10]
They signed with Fearless Records on July 6, 2017, and announced their debut album Pain Again , produced by Josh Schroeder, which was released on August 11. [11] [12] [13] The lead single, "Anything to Numb" was released alongside a music video that day. [14] The second single, "Pain Again" was released on July 28 with another music video. [15] The song "E.D.A." had a music video released on August 10. [16] [17] The third single "Empire of Dirt"'s music video was released in May 2018. [18]
Early on in 2017, the band toured with For the Fallen Dreams and Deadships. [19] In mid-2017, the band toured alongside Wage War, Gideon, Oceans Ate Alaska and Loathe. [20] They also toured with Kublai Khan and I Am. [21] In 2018, they toured in support of Emmure alongside Counterparts and King 810 on the Natural Born Killers tour. [22] In late-2018, they opened for Counterparts and Being as an Ocean, alongside Have Mercy on the Private Room Tour. Varials also got to play on the Atlantic City date for the 25th anniversary of the Vans Warped Tour. [23] They were able to play both days of the festival due to technical issues they had on the first day of playing.
Varials has gained comparisons to Knocked Loose by the media, and Knocked Loose vocalist Bryan Garris guested on the Varials song "Empire of Dirt". [24] [25] Varials also toured with Knocked Loose in December 2015. [26] [27] They have also been likened to the hardcore band Jesus Piece, who also hail from Philadelphia, as both bands have been regarded as some of the brightest prospects in the genre.[ according to whom? ]
The band released their sophomore album, In Darkness , through Fearless on October 11, 2019. [28] [29] Varials supported Counterparts on their Private Room 2.0 Tour throughout the Fall of 2019. [30] Varials will be heading to Europe to support Polaris on their Death of Me Tour. Varials is also set to support Spite on their Root of all Evil Tour.
On January 23, 2020, vocalist Travis Tabron announced his departure from the band. They will still continue to tour without Travis with Mitchell Rogers taking over lead vocals. [31]
In late 2020 and early 2021, the band began working with producer Josh Schroeder on a new EP. They later decided to switch from an EP to their third studio album. [32] On March 8, 2022, the band announced via their Instagram that they had finished work on the album. This also included the return of guitarist Shane Lyons. [33] In August, the band announced their upcoming album, Scars for You to Remember, would be released on October 14. [34]
The band has listed many artists and genres as influences, such as Slipknot, [5] Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Coheed and Cambria, Chiodos, Rise Against, Keeping Destiny, Rage Against the Machine, Big L, [8] nu metal music, and shoegaze music. [5]
Fearless Records is an American independent record label that was founded in 1994. Fearless is based in Culver City, California, and is best known for its early pop punk moments captured in the Fearless Flush Sampler and Punk Bites releases, as well as additional releases by bands such as Bigwig and Dynamite Boy; and later Sugarcult; Plain White T's; The Aquabats; Amely; and post-hardcore releases by At the Drive-In and Anatomy of a Ghost. However, the label has experimented with different styles in recent years. Acts such as Blessthefall, The Word Alive, Ice Nine Kills, Mayday Parade, Pierce The Veil, Starset, The Pretty Reckless, Underoath and The Color Morale have showcased post-hardcore, metalcore, hard rock and alternative rock bands that have emerged in recent years. Fearless Records' releases were distributed in the US by RED Distribution, but after Concord Music Group's purchase of the label in 2015, it is now distributed by Universal Music Group worldwide.
Emmure is an American metalcore band formed in 2003. Originally based in New Fairfield, Connecticut, before moving to Queens, New York, the group has released eight albums, with their first public release being a 2006 EP entitled The Complete Guide to Needlework.
Born of Osiris is an American progressive metalcore band formed in 2003 in Palatine, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Ronnie Canizaro, lead guitarist Lee McKinney, rhythm guitarist/bassist Nick Rossi, drummer Cameron Losch, and keyboardist/vocalist Joe Buras. Born of Osiris has played at various festivals including the Summer Slaughter Tour and the Music as a Weapon Tour 4.
The Word Alive is an American metalcore band formed in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2008. The band was signed to Fearless Records since their formation. In 2022, they changed their label and signed to Thriller Records. The band currently consists of vocalist Tyler Smith, guitarists Zack Hansen and Jose DelRio, and drummer Daniel Nelson. The group has had several line-up changes throughout their career, with Hansen as the only remaining founding member. Their second EP, Empire reached No. 15 on the Top Heatseekers, meeting a great amount of positive acclaim upon its release in 2009. The following year, the group recorded and released their debut studio album, Deceiver on August 31, 2010, which reached No. 97 on the Billboard 200 and 15 on Independent Albums.
Motionless in White is an American metalcore band from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2004, the band consists of lead vocalist Chris "Motionless" Cerulli, guitarists Ryan Sitkowski and Ricky "Horror" Olson, drummer Vinny Mauro and bassist Justin Morrow. Cerulli is the only member of the original line-up that remains in the band. The group has stated that their band name derived from the Eighteen Visions song "Motionless and White".
Ice Nine Kills is an American heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts, who are signed to Fearless Records. Best known for its horror-inspired lyrics, Ice Nine Kills formed in its earliest incarnation in 2000 by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz. Charnas is currently the only remaining founding member.

Obey the Brave was a Canadian hardcore punk band From Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. Formed in 2012, the band features Despised Icon singer Alex Erian on vocals as well as Blind Witness bassist Miguel Lepage, guitarists John Campbell and Greg Wood, and drummer Stevie Morotti. By the middle of 2012, just over half a year after becoming a band, the metalcore act found itself signed to iconic label Good Fight, with the EP, Ups And Downs, released in 2012. They signed to the label Epitaph, with the band's debut studio album, Young Blood, released in August of that same year. A sophomore album, Salvation, followed in 2014. The third album Mad Season was followed up in 2017. The fourth album Balance was followed up in 2019.
In Darkness is the second studio album by Varials. It was released on October 11, 2019, through Fearless Records. It is their last release to feature Travis Tabron as vocalist, since he announced his departure from the band later in 2020.
