Gideon is an American metalcore band formed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2008. The group are currently signed to Equal Vision Records, having formerly been with Facedown Records and Strike First Records. They have released a total of six studio albums and two EPs.

Background

The band began in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2008. [1] Gideon are currently made up of vocalist Daniel McWhorter, lead guitarist Tyler Riley, bassist Caleb Derusha and drummer Jake Smelley. [1]

The outfit released an independent extended play project in 2010 with their self-titled Gideon EP. [2] The band were picked up by the smaller label division Strike First Records of Facedown Records in 2011 shortly before they debuted their first studio album Costs . [3] Eventually, the band got the attention of Facedown, who signed the band before the release of Milestone in 2012, making it their second studio album. [4] The album made progress on a few Billboard charts, including the likes of the Christian Albums and Heatseekers Albums. [5] In February 2016, Gideon announced that they had left Facedown Records and had signed to Equal Vision Records [6] and would go on to release their fourth album, "Cold", in May 2017. Cold earned Gideon their best-received and most-successful album debut to date, finding impressive spots on multiple Billboard Charts including: No. 5 on Top Hard Music, No. 15 on Independent Record Label, No. 23 on Top Rock, No. 86 on Top Digital and No. 87 on Top Current. On February 1, 2019, Gideon released their second EP, No Love/No One, [8] marking a heavier change in their sound. On October 11, 2019, they released their fifth album, Out of Control, on Equal Vision. [9] [ better source needed ] They also announced that they are no longer a Christian band. “We’re just very open-minded and loved making friends with people,” said vocalist and guitarist Tyler Riley. “And we didn’t understand why — if they believe something else — they would go to a different place when they die. I think that’s what kind of opened the door for me: making all these friends that believe totally different things to me and having to ask myself, 'What did they do to deserve Hell?'” The band had said they had started abandoning their faith as early as 2016. Musical style

Sources have put their music into various genres, from hardcore punk [2] [11] to melodic hardcore [12] to metalcore. [13] However, the band have slowly started to pursue a harder style eschewing the more melodic styles in favor towards the thrash side of the spectrum. [14] Until 2019, the band identified as a Christian band, and so their music was built around a Christian atmosphere. As of 2019 the band is no longer a Christian band. [15]

Facedown Records has released the other albums from the band signed the band. The Burial are an American Christian metalcore/melodic death metal band. Members are from South Bend, Indiana, Benton Harbor, Michigan and Champaign, Illinois. The band started making music in 2005. The band now consists of lead vocalist and guitarist, Elisha Mullins, lead guitarist, Todd Hatfield, drummer, Kaleb Luebchow, and bass guitarist, Alex Poole. Hands was an American Christian metal band from Fargo, North Dakota, United States. The band started making music in 2007, with lead vocalist and guitarist Shane Ochsner, lead guitarist Ian Johnson, bass guitarist Chris Schwartz, and drummer Josh Silbernagel. Jerik Hendrickson became the band's lead guitarist in 2010, but he has since left the band, with Shane Ochsner taking over lead guitar duties. Altars are an American Christian metalcore band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The band started making music in 2010, with members, lead vocalist, Canaan Smith, guitarists, Seth Munson and Brock Williams, bass guitarist Mike Searle, and drummer, Ben Reno. The band released one extended play, Opposition, in 2011 with Strike First Records. Their first studio album, Conclusions, was released by Facedown Records in 2012. Call to Preserve was an American Christian and straight edge crossover thrash band who played a fusion hardcore punk and metalcore. They come from Rockledge, Florida. The band started making music in 2003, and disbanded in 2011. Their membership was vocalist, John Ellis, guitarists, Duke Ahrens, Matt Aviles, and Harbor Partin, bass guitarist, Kyle Bowen, and drummer, Mike Aviles. The band released one independently made extended play, Call to Preserve, in 2003. Their first studio album, Unsinkable, was released by Strike First Records, in 2006. The subsequent studio album, From Isolation, was released by Facedown Records, in 2008. They released, Life of Defiance, with Facedown Records, in 2010, and this was final studio album. Their last release, an extended play, Validation, was released by Facedown Records, in 2011, marking this as their final musical recording.

Take It Back! was an American hardcore band from Fayetteville, Arkansas. The band started making music in 2005, and disbanded in 2009. Their membership was vocalist, Nick Thomas, guitarists, Daniel Hawkins and Cody Bradley, and drummer, Josh Huskey. The band released an extended play, Rumors of Revolt, in 2009, with Facedown Records. Their first studio album, Can't Fight Robots, was released by Facedown Records, in 2008. Sleep for Sleepers were an American Christian alternative rock band, also defined as an alternative rock and indie rock band. The band formed in Whittier, California in 2004. The current lineup consists of vocalist and guitarist Jamey Price and drummer Chad Jordan, the latter of whom joined in mid-2013. The original lineup consisted of guitarist Chris Kellogg, bassist Jamey Price, and drummer Jeff Darcy.

Poured Out are an American metalcore band from Hollywood, Maryland, and they started making music together in 2014, playing hardcore punk and metalcore. They have released one extended play, Blind Heart (2016), with Facedown Records.
