Varunika Saraf (born 19 December 1981, in Nagpur, Maharashtra) and now based in Hyderabad [1] is an Indian contemporary painter who seeks to bare the reality of violence. [2]

Career

Making Wasli as the center of her practice, Varunika Saraf uses colour to draw you in, to showcase the details underneath. Using handground pigments made in her studio, [3] miniature art, embroidery, [4] crochet, she comments on injustice, historical and political realities in India.

Exhibitions

Her work is regularly presented at Art Basel (Basel. Hong Kong), Art Dubai and India Art Fair. She has been a part of several other solo [5] and group exhibitions [6] in India and abroad. [7]

Public collections

Varunika Saraf's works are a part of the collections [8] at KNMA, New Delhi; Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai; Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum and Sarmaya Foundation.

Awards and honours

Saraf received an Honourable Mention from the Sharjah Biennial Prize [9] jury for her series ‘We, The People’ which was a part of the Sharjah Biennale 15 Thinking Historically in the Present. She was also awarded the Asia Society Gamechanger Award (Asia Arts Future Award), 2023, [10] Kashi Award for Visual Arts (KAVA2), 2006 and Shri. SL Parasher Gold Medal, University of Hyderabad, 2006.

He made his acting debut with Mohana Krishna Indraganti's 2008 comedy film Ashta Chamma, an Indian adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest. After Ashta Chamma's commercial success, Nani played the lead roles in three Telugu films in the next two years: Ride (2009), Snehituda (2009) and Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu (2010). In 2011, Nani collaborated with B. V. Nandini Reddy on the romantic comedy film Ala Modalaindi which was profitable.
