Vedam Jaishankar

Vedam Jaishankar is an cricket correspondent with a career spanning three decades during which he travelled 5o six continents while covering cricket. [1] [2] After a stint with the Deccan Herald, he moved to The Indian Express where he was the principal cricket correspondent for many years. He is the author of a popular book, Rahul Dravid, a biography. [3]

Early life

Cricket has been an abiding passion with him and he has played school college and club cricket with a number of well known cricketers. He coached for a few years in the Brijesh Patel Cricket Academy before the demands of journalism made him give up coaching.

He has occasionally done Television and Radio commentary of the game. Jaishankar was the office bearer of the Sports Writers Association of Bangalore and its parent body Sports Journalist Federation of India. He received the for excellence in Sports Journalism from the Karnataka State Government and the for outstanding contribution to Journalism. He also served in the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Accreditation Committee in two World Cup tournaments. [4]

Career

After working with Deccan Herald, he had a long stint with The New Indian Express as its main cricket writer. Later, Jaishankar worked briefly as the founder managing editor of Bangalore Bias, [5] an English language afternoon paper in Bangalore [6] which stopped publication after a few years. He also worked for Times of India. [7] He authored three books, the best-seller, Rahul Dravid, a Biography [8] , Casting A Spell - The Story of Karnataka Cricket [9] and, 'Courage, conviction, controversy and cricket'. [10] [11] The Dravid biography was also officially translated into four languages. A veteran of several World Cups, he last covered the 2003 edition in South Africa, for Vijay Times that he helped launch. Jaishankar writes for SPIN, a British cricket magazine besides a number of Indian publications. He writes in many Indian publications. [12] He also teaches sports journalism. [2]

Mohammad Kaif is a former Indian cricketer, who played Tests and ODIs. He made it to the national team on the strength of his performances at the Under-19 level, where he captained the India national under-19 cricket team to victory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2000. With India, Kaif was a member of the Indian team that was one of the joint-winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, which the title was also shared with Sri Lanka, and was a member of the team that were runners-up in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. The Deccan Chargers (DC) were a franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, India, that competed in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a professional Twenty20 cricket (T20) league in India. They were one of the ten teams that competed in the 2011 Indian Premier League, making their fourth appearance in all IPL tournaments. The team was captained by Kumar Sangakkara and coached by Darren Lehmann.

Rachin Ravindra is a New Zealand international cricketer. He made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in September 2021.

Anil Alexander Aldrin is a player of the Indian Men's National field hockey team. His family hailed from Kerala in a place named Murukanpuzha in Trivandrum. He played as a defender for India from 1992 to 1999 and captained the country during his last years in 1999. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics at Atlanta. He also played in the Asian Games in 1994 and 1998, winning the gold in his second appearance at Bangkok, and he represented India in Champions Trophy in 1995 and 1996 at home in Madras. He also played two World Cups in 1994 in Sydney and under coach Vasudevan Baskaran in 1998 at Utrecht, the Netherlands. He serves as the Sports Director at Vidyashilp Academy, Bengaluru, India.
